Game Thread W3 - Arizona V Washington (1 Viewer)

I'm surprised they punted. 4th and short, and good field position, and no guarantees they get the ball back. Hmmmmmm.

Absolutely idiotic punt.
Az defense has been pretty good this year.
Worked out really well for them...
One of the things that I've been most impressed with Zorn over the last two games has been that he seems to know how to take risks at the right time. Last week it was a 4th and 2 pass to make sure Brees couldn't lead his team on a comeback drive; this week it was a pass to Cooley late that did the same thing. That's different from Gibbs. Whisenhunt did himself a disservice with that punt. It's nice to have faith in your defense, but as between that unit and the Cards offense I want the offense deciding my games for me.

Washington was definitely not hitting on all cylinders today. The offensive stats are very similar for both teams but the Cardinals running game looked a bit more effective today. Portis did get his usual TD however, and that was the victory margin.

The playcalling and execution in the second half by Washington was pretty good for the second week in a row. It's nice to see Zorn making some gutsy calls in "risky" situations, and seeing the team execute the plays like they're no big deal. With Gibbs in similar 4th down situations the pressure level was much higher and results were worse.

The 52-yard FG call was a stupid call. What was Zorn screaming at Durant Books for after the miss anyway? The hold was fine.

I'd love to see Devon Thomas get over the PI calls, begging the refs for flags on the defense, and acting like he's never been in the end zone before. Oh, that's right, he hasn't been. He's going to be a good player, just has some maturing to do.

2-1 is where Washington needed to be today, and they do look like they know what they're doing much more than during week 1.
