Game Thread W3 - Detroit V Minnesota (1 Viewer)

No one anywhere will ever see this comment or care about it, but the whistles going crazy at the end of the game even HINTING at a "gee, they called time out DO OVER" is freaaking travesty.

i see and care, but don't understand.are you saying the vikings called a timeout to ice hanson and the refs ignored it because overtime screws up television schedules?

Well, if nothing else they are consistent at being completely worthless on Offense and coaching ability in the 2nd half..

The only sad thing is they are getting WORSE as the season goes on not better.. Just completely :loco:

1st week, up by 10 at Half-time and lose.

2nd week, up by 17 at Half-time and lose.

3rd week, up by 20 at Half-time and lose.

So what's next, up by 30 and lose?? :lmao:

I say I dont know and IDGAS becoz if the timeout wasnt before the ball was snapped, the play stands and nfl refs have spun a wicked web over the years with their "scooby doo" do-overs, which are a disgrace.

The sad thing is I came into this season with what I thought were low expectations.. 7 to 8 wins.. and figured no stress this year..

Then they play lights out Football for 2 quarters in 3 straight games and each time got my hopes up that they finally "Got It". :bag:

I see no reason at all to play McNabb next week.. ZERO.. Play Ponder, let us deal with the inexperience of a Rookie and see if he gets better as the year goes on or not.

At least gives us some hope for next year..

If there is a Next year for the Vikings in Minnesota.. :(

So I wonder if Peterson is going to get some blame for the 4th down play... Where the coach had the kicker going out and he said go back. I know the coach changed his mind and he will get crucified for it but will any of the fans blame Peterson at all? I mean you kick a FG there and the Vikings win the game.

Bad teams find ways to loose. Typical.

How can you blame Peterson? He didn't get a chance. If he was in the game the Vikings pick up that first down.

Likely, but we'll never know. Terrible play call.

He was in the game... they ran a misdirection and handed it to the up back, which was Gerhart. Peterson was a decoy.

But I agree with your point... you have to give it to Peterson there.

I leaned over to my 9 year old when they were up 20-0 and said "Let's see if they find a way to lose this one." God they suck. Is it that the other teams adjust at halftime and our coaches don't know how to adjust to the adjustments??

I honestly don't understand nuances of the game enough to know what the adjustments were. Seems like I notice a lot more when I watch something multiple times, but its hard to discern live. But it's obvious Detroit needed to find a way to get the ball out quicker, and today that meant looking for Brandon Pettigrew often in the 2nd half.

1st half: 2-24

2nd half: 9-88

Not bad for a guy who barely saw the practice field all week (shoulder).

Like I said last week, what halftime adjustments would you make when you dominate both sides of the ball? I think the problem is that they can't make in-game adjustments after the opposition makes some changes at half.

Good call. They used Pettigrew to exploit the middle of the field and help combat the pressure. The screen to Best was also a huge play that took advantage of the mad rush the Vikings were employing.

ADP shouldn't get the "blame" for anything...but the coach sure should be second guessed for letting a player dictate the decision there, and then for making a ####ty call and not giving the ball to Peterson once he let him have his way. It would bother me a LOT of Schwartz sent Hanson out and Calvin Johnson waved him off and demanded they go for it and Schwartz capitulated. He's the coach and should make the call - and once you start letting the players run the show you're done. you also can't say they "win the game" if they kick that FG, because everything else changes after that too. i.e. the Lions go for it on 4th down instead of kicking a FG later, etc. so that's always a pointless exercise.

I don't see how Peterson can be blamed. It's the craziest, most unbeleivable thing to me that your best offensive player demands to go for the 4th and 1 and they ran a play for... HIS BACKUP? Just crazy. Wouldn't even believe it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. Zero blame to Peterson. A coach should either go with his gut and kick FG or give that player the $%@& ball to get the yard he insisted on going for. You don't take his challenge and make him a decoy. Same old stupid 'FB into the center' they've been running for 7 years with utter failure. Come on Frazier/Musgrave!

The Vikings coach should get all the blame. he makes the FG error which was fatal. but why he was passing when they were up by 20 and have Adrian Peterson was just plain silly.

If I am the Vikes I am already looking for a new coach.

JMHO, it's not complicated. The only nuance that seems to be happenning through 3 weeks is the Vikes play the 2nd half with their hands clasped around their throats.

This. Will they EVER hire a coach who knows anything about football? How do you stop giving the ball to Peterson in the second half every game. AND how do you have your best WR on the sideline for a third of every game and call it "by design" and "using him the best way possible"? Not only that but you drafted the best TE available in order to play a 2 TE offense... where is it?
