Game Thread W4 - Buffalo V Cincinnati (1 Viewer)

And, I was quick to keep singing his praises last year so I have to be honest about him this year, Kyle Williams has been non-existent in both the run and pass game. I'm not sure if his role has changed or what, but he's not only not showing up in the stat line, he's just not making any type of impact on the field at all.
he was double-teamed quite a bit, and that helped free up Dareus for his big game I think.I agree that he definitely has not been anywhere near as disruptive as he was last year though.

Where do the Bills focus on the draft then? CB? LB? Too me, McKelvin will never be better than a #3 CB for a team. McGee has been injury prone lately, and Florence is a solid #2. The defense the last 3 weeks was being over shadowed by the O, and that was a good thing. 2 TD's are nice by the D, but it doesn't scream playoff Defense. The O is bound for games like this once in a while.

Ugh. I posted this in another thread, but apparently the side judge on that Stevie Johnson play originally ruled it a catch, but the back judge came in and overruled it. Horrendous.

Stevie is reportedly furious with that back judge.

That is one of the worst calls that I've ever seen that will go completely unreported in the media. They correctly rule that a catch and the Bills may very well have been able to hold onto that 7 point lead.

Since the Bengals kicked the game winning FG with 4 seconds, I think there's an excellent chance that the Bills win if that call is made correctly. The Bills got outplayed and didn't deserve to win, but screw that. Teams get outplayed all the time but still manage to win because they get some lucky bounces or some defensive TDs or some such. If the Bills got the first down there, then they were only about 10 yards from being within FG range as well. But instead of Buffalo being given the clutch first down and seeing where that leads, they get screwed in a huge call that killed their offensive momentum and put their tired defense back on the field.

What makes you think this? The Bengals had two TOs in their pocket when they kicked the FG IIRC, and of course their clock management would have been different if the Bills had not had that first down taken away from them. Buffalo had all sorts of opportunities to overcome that call. They could have played competent defense, or they could have done something on offense on their next possession. They did neither of those things.

Exactly. The '01 Patriots won a zillion games in which they were outplayed but nobody cares. When those sort of teams win 10-11 games, people say "they find a way to win". When they don't they say "well they didn't deserve to win anyway". For a young team trying to gain confidence, it's just about piling up wins at this stage of the season. We really needed this to be a game that we stole. I have a bad feeling we're looking at 2008 2.0 the way the schedule shakes out.

Hard to tell some of the close calls from the stadium so I can't comment on that.

I was happy with Cincy's defense for the 4th week in a row. The DLine looks legit. Our best passrush seems to come when we rush only 4. Dalton was pretty terrible in the 1st half and pretty awesome down the stretch. This is becoming a trend for him. His scramble for that 1st down was huge.

Benson continues to run his butt off and keep the offense on schedule for 1st downs. Leonard dominates in the 2 minute offense again. Its so obvious when Scott comes in what they're doing. They know he can't pass protect so he only comes in to run a toss or some sort of stretch play then comes right back out.

AJ Green is light years above the rest of the receiving group. I don't know how Simpson doesn't fumble on every touch. He holds the ball like Deion Sanders even in traffic. Gresham had a few awesome plays in some of the biggest spots.

That call was terrible. I can understand how it was made on the field, but how is it not a catch with replay...

You cannot play the what-if game. The call didn't go Buffalo's way. There was an angle that the ball appears to touch the ground, maybe where the back judge was had a clearer view of that happening. Who knows. Bottom line is the final call on the field was no catch. The angles they had in replay could not dispute that.

Maybe Buffalo goes on to score from there. Maybe they fumble the next snap. You can't say. What happened, happened, and the Bills lost. The refs didn't give the Bengals points. They didn't end the game. The refs at most made a mistake. The Bills lost the game.

Agreed on all counts.

The D played terrific. Constant pressure on Fitzpatrick all day.

Leon Hall is amazing. Locked down Stevie. Every catch was short and no YAC. I truly don't think there is a better tackling CB in all of football.

AJG

Very excited about the team going forward. If we can keep our D together and find an heir to Benson, we are in a good spot for years to come.

Clements looked good as well.-QG

Agreed. They gave up some really bad plays when they absolutely needed a stop. I mean, Brian Leonard with 2 big plays to seal the deal? Really?BUT, they DID force the Bengals into a 4th and 3 that was originally ruled short. Pretty amazing that the refs didn't think there was enough clear evidence to overturn Stevie's "non-catch" but thought there was clear evidence to overturn the spot on that 4th and 3.

The Bengals deserve credit for taking advantage of every opportunity and punching the Bills in the mouth in the 2nd half, but the officials were certainly no friends to the Bills yesterday.

The Bills have all sorts of problems, it just sucks that there's never really a game where you feel a bit sheepish as a Bills fan because you know the refs gave you one. It's always "well, we should have been able to overcome the refs.". That's a tough pill to swallow when your team is good but not great and one break one way or the other can make or break a game for you.

I just can't wait for this next week to see the refs finally call all of those roughing the passer "penalties" that Vick isn't supposedly getting. He'll end up getting a season's worth in one game most likely.

Brian Leonard does that all the time. Actually it's usually one big play (and exactly one) each game - dude is :moneybag:

The Dalton scramble was on 3rd and 3, not 4th and 3. Linky

Ah the noted pro-Bengal bias.

Can probably quote every fan base the same way.

Need to protect the QB better and not leave any room for this
