Game Thread W8 - Tennessee V San Diego (1 Viewer)

just checking in, this is about the time we call CJ a bust, right? CJ is a bust!
One thing I can't figure out is why he has been removed from the passing game. Why don't they find more creative ways to get him the ball with some space instead of having him try and run right into the back of his OL who haven't opened a hole for him?

Is Gates still in? I don't see a target on the last couple drives, and haven't had a chance to try to see the game.

Not commenting on what you're doing - and I love it because I am also a CJ owner - but did want to comment on a separate matter. I've heard a LOT of "CJ is a bust" this year, and yet he's the #3 overall back in my leagues. Yes, he's been inconsistent, but he's ahead of where he was last year before he went on that torrid run late in the year. Teams were DETERMINED to stop him early in the year, but hopefully the success of the passing game eases some of that pressure over time (just like VY's move into the starting lineup did that last year).

Just came back from the locker room. Looks like he'll be returning, but they didn't say what the problem was

Nice job by Rivers to escape the rush on that play. Too bad, because being sacked would have been preferable to throwing the pick-six.

Edit: Oh, good. Saved by defensive holding.

Wow, what a turnaround. Looked like a pick six was going to put the Titans up by 8-10 points, but it was called back, and two plays later the Chargers are up by 5.

Where's Mathews? Has he been benched again in this game? I just see Tolbert running the ball.
Tolbert got hurt just before a third-and-one play came up. I thought to myself, "It's third and one. Just don't put Sproles in and call a draw, please."So of course they put Sproles in and called a draw . . . and it gained like 20 yards.

How does Tennessee constantly have guys running wide open downfield? That's at least the 4th time today where they've had a guy at least 3+ yards behind the defense.

Going for two there is stupid. Now, if SD scores a TD, they are up 9. Terrible decision.
Maybe that will be the hot thread next week.If they had gone for one and made it, and if SD scored a TD, SD would be up 8. In which case TEN would have to go for two next time.So TEN has to go for two (at some point) either way.

Yeah, but if you kick the EP you are still in a one-score game. Now, it becomes two scores so going for two next time is unnecessary.

Suggest you go read the "down by 15" thread instead of getting into a rehash of that discussion here...ETA: And the whole thing is moot anyway, as the Chargers botch the extra point.

That's the issue in the other thread. If you're down by 8 and you're going to miss the two-point conversion, it's really a two-score game. The fact that the Titans just missed the two-point conversion now suggests that they would have also missed it if they'd put it off until later instead. (There's no good reason to think that they're more likely to make it later than they were to make it now.)

I feel like we have this conversation every week in the Shark Pool. You're assuming that they miss the two-point conversion, and that they would make it later in the game. It's not a one-score game after you pick the PAT if you're convinced that two-point conversions can't ever be completed. It's better to find out sooner rather than later if your necessary two-point conversion failed or not, IMHO.The only thing that makes it a questionable idea is that the opponent could kick two field goals down the stretch.

Happens every week. The combo of CJ and lack of respect for WRs

first time in "forever" I missed a Titans game.

Wish I got to see this good Chargers team showup.

Looks like Damian Williams didn't get in all that much til it mattered and made a couple big catches. That about right?

Stats for Chargers O look like they used everyone they could and they all did well. What happened to Titans D today?

He gets almost every carry. When the entire defense pretends (and the Titans don't do much to change their opinion) he's their whole offense, and you send him to catch a screen there's like 3-4 guys waiting to take a shot at him and he's just standing there waiting for the ball to come like a sitting duck. They used to do it more but there were too many big hits.

What happened to the Titans D is that they played the #1 offense in the NFL.

LOL about what I expected to hear...OK

Do people honestly expect Johnson to have 70 yards per carry or something? Damn... it's the same thing every week... same with last year. Johnson is a bust? If by bust... you mean currently #2 or #3 back in FF... I guess he's a bust. I sure am glad that I got him on 3 of my 4 teams. Somehow I am leading every league that I own him in. I am also so tired of hearing "If Johnson didn't break that long run, he would have only had blah blah yards per carry. People are going to be saying that for a LONG time... beacuse he is going to keep breaking big runs. He has had down games, and he has had great games. He has had bad breaks as well (85 yard TD against the Steelers called back).

I know that I am not looking to sell CJ.

what he said

I was surprised how conservative Norv got on the last few drives. Running each time on 1st down; a play action long ball would have been appropriate once or twice. Instead run, run, pass and hope to convert. That will lose you more games than it will win.
