Game Thread W9 - NY Jets V Detroit (1 Viewer)

the chop block calls today were kind of interesting. It was pretty clear that the Lions were trying to go low on the Jets DL (which makes sense because their O-line is probably the weakest part of their team and they needed every advantage they could get against a tough Jets front 7).They got called for penalties on a few plays that technically shouldn't have been. The guy went low and an instant later, the lineman opposite the DL getting cut engaged him up top. If that happens the other way around (engagement, then low hit) its supposed to be a penalty. Personally, i think either play is pretty dirty and both should be a penalty. But there's no doubt the Lions were wrongfully called for at least 2 chop blocks if you got by the letter of the rule book.Bart Scott came out in the press conference and called the Lions the dirtiest team he's ever played (outside of the Titans when he was with Baltimore).Any thoughts? I thought the Lions took a couple of cheapish shots today, but nothing out of the ordinary (other than the mis-called chop blocks, which i think are dirty plays regardless of what the rule says)
One play they lined 3 guys up on Backus and none of them came close to Stafford. I think the Jets defense is a bit overrated if Backus is handling three guys.
great contribution.

The Jets are and have been missing a legitimate Pass Rusher..... The Jenkins loss to me, never allowed me to over rate this defense... They needed him to reach their potential just like the Lions would take a huge hit without Suh.The secondary is still a work in progress and had 3 new guys to start the year and then had to mix and match when Revis was out... Revis seems to be coming into form so, I'd expect the rest of the secondary to settle into their positions as well. But, yeah, next year the Jets need a Pass Rusher and more DL help....

I'd say the primary need for the defense is a legit pass rusher. Calvin Pace will probably never be that elite player we need. As for DL help, I think the Jets staff is pretty high on Ropati Pitoitua and he should help contribute next season

they really seemed to like him during Hard Knocks, but you can't take too much from that. Gotta see him on the field first.Gotta hope that Ellis hangs around for at least next year. Assuming Jenkins doesn't come back (he says he wants to, but who the hell know) the Jets are an Ellis retirement away from having a very mediocre DL. (pouha and Devito are both decent space eaters with some strength, but neither is a playmaker)

The interior of the line is not the problem at all. DeVito and Pouha are very, very good at clogging up the middle. They need an edge rusher, or at least a player than can get to the QB on non-obvious passing downs. Taylor is their 3rd down guy. but they need an all-around rusher. Ellis is still good, but not the answer. Gholston just hasn't panned out at all.
