Gary Brackett (1 Viewer)

Simple facts about Brackett. He's 29, he's in the final year of his contract, coming off a fractured leg surgery, new D coordinator, etc. The Colts have a record of not resigning older veteran LB's (Peterson, June, Thornton), so what's in store for him for this year and the next 2-3 years? He's small and not what they are wanting at LB anymore in Indy, but I have no doubt he's a 3 down MLB all year this year (barring injury). Is this his last year as a valuable IDP LB?

I think his redraft outlook this year is solid. Anything is possible next year. Brackett was one of the few players the Colts have re-signed in the back seven in recent years. I think the development of Phillip Wheeler will make the decision for the team. If Wheeler proves himself an every-down player, the Colts will have plenty of options. They could move Wheeler to the middle or grab a stop-gap vet MLB in Brackett's place with or without drafting a long-term replacement next spring.I wouldn't invest much in Brackett for the long term -- he's only a LB2 in the best of circumstances -- but his value should be essentially unchanged for 2009. There's a little more upside (move away from the Tampa-2, contract year motivation, turnover at OLB) possibly, but not appreciably more downside.
