Gates Resting this Week? (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
I was just reading another posting about ADP and Taylor and there was someone that said that their heard that A. Gates may rest for a couple of weeks because he is dinged up. Can anyone else confirm this or is it just being made up?? I play against him this week in the playoffs.Thoughts

It wouldn't surprise me since they want him healthy against Denver the following week to lock up the division.

The Detroit game isn't nearly as important as the Raiders and then especially Denver. If he is questionable then I can see the Chargers resting him.

Everytime I saw him make a play (which wasn't often) against the Titans, he came off the field winded. Maybe I'm mistaken but I thought that's what I saw. Made me wonder what kinda shape he's in.

This would be huge for L.T owners with Gates and Rivers possible out this week. This week i think that L.T can take care of the Lions by himself!!!

I was at the game, and Gates was walking back to the huddle after every down. He looked winded. He also landed ackward on his back and sat out a couple plays.

Chargers still need this win though, so I'd be surprised if he sat out, unless he's seriously injured.

has he been questionable in recent weeks? is this related to an actual injury? please fill me in.

i play against him this week. and after Witten caught 15 balls against the Lions last week i had Gates penciled in for 25/200/4 this weekend

ok just educating myself a little.. i didnt know these things..

Dec. 9, 2007 - 5:04 p.m. ET Antonio Gates caught six passes for 57 yards and a touchdown in Week 14. He was hobbled by hip and back injuries and looked to be significantly less than 100 percent most of the game, but even 75 percent of Gates is a top-three fantasy option. Keep him rolling against Detroit in Week 15. Dec. 9, 2007 - 1:56 p.m. ET Antonio Gates was having his back checked out by the Chargers' medical staff on the sideline Sunday. Gates didn't miss any immediate playing time, but seemed to be at less than 100 percent in the game.

Are the Chargers still fighting for seeding in the playoffs?? I know they'll win the division, but if they need to win out for a better seeding, then every game is important...

Gates was born in Detroit and from what I've read, he has alot of family there. I would expect him to be motivated to play if he is healthy enough.

With Pittsburgh, I believe so....Pitt 9-4 Bolts 8-5

Went to San Diego Times Union website and they had an article about all the wounded Chargers. Mentioned Gates and another guy were the two LEAST injured of those that got hurt Sunday. Also said Rivers was going to try like crazy to play Sunday. Can't imagine Chargers are already plannig to rest Gates if he's slightly injured while Rivers is going to try and practice and are holding out hope he will play on a badly hurt knee.

Reading the San Diego paper today, they said Gates was in much better shape compared to some od the other players after the Titan game (Rivers, Merriman, Williams, Neal)

Broncos play Thursday. If they lose and Bolts beat the Lions, the division is over. Chargers have to keep playing and keep their momentum going. So I think they will keep Gates playing
If they are competing with Pitts for playoff seeding and Denver for division, I can't see Gates resting- even more so with all the other injured players. San Diego has to have someone other than LT out there. I see this as a nonstory-- esp if Denver wins Thurs and makes it even tighter.

Antonio Gates, TE

Back bruise; should play Sunday; Gates will have his back treated throughout the week; he scored the tying touchdown at Tennessee.

The worst post ever with the most replies including this one.

Can we change the title to..."Please post your worst post here, ever"

They also have an outside shot at the bye, if they win out and the Colts lose out.
Unless the Jags win 2 out of 3. :lmao:
And the Steelers need to lose a couple. Okay, it's a very long shot, but stranger things have happened . . .

Actually, if Denver looses any game from here on out, the division is the Chargers based on tie-breakers.

So tired of this 'they should shut so-and-so down because they're going nowhere' or 'they should rest so and so because they don't really need him.' It's how fans think. It is not how the overwhelming majority of NFL coaches or players think. Even the idea of resting players when playoff teams have nothing left to play for is over-rated--it does happen, but nowhere near as much or as soon as people seem to expect it to.

If Gates is healthy enough he'll play. Just stop.

Horrible shape, they have only been conditioning non-stop for 6 months or better.

:lmao: I think you pretty much covered it. He was hurt, and limping after plays, which is probably what Bri saw. So, in conclusion: He may be at less than 100%, so if you also have Witten or KW2 you may want to bench Gates.

I thought it was odd, that's all.Maybe it was the injuries. I said I might be mistaken. I try to post something from the actual game here and.....

Antonio Gates (hip/back) was held out of Chargers practice Wednesday. This will only be a concern if he misses Thursday's workout. Gates played through his injuries in Week 14 and has sat out only two games since 2003.

good point
No its not. See post #12
sure it does.. doesnt matter that its in San Diego. Still going to be shown in detroit. and he is going to know that he his playing the Lions.. a team that he would have grown up hearing. I think it would matter.

 Seriously? I dont believe that but youre entitled to your opinion.

THIS is a :goodposting:
With Gates playing the late Sunday game, and no other options at game time, should I spend the $2 to pickup Manumaleuna, just in case?? I'd have to drop Owen Daniels, or start Owen tomorrow and bench Gates now.

Rule #1 in FF - don't bench your studs. (At least not until you have to - I would snag someone off the WW if need be, but don't bench him until you find out if he practices today (Thursday) at the absolute earliest. Personally I'd wait until Sunday if at all possible.)

Actually Rule #1 - don't post WSISs in the freaking Shark Pool. :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:

I picked up Greg Olsen just in case Gates doesn't play (our league locks free agents at start of the Sunday games). Tried to find the best TE available that had a game at either the same time as SD, or after. Here are the options:

IND @ OAK (Clark rostered in probably every league, Zach Miller likely available).

DET @ SD (McHugh put up 3/60 last week, likely available)

PHI @ DAL (LJ Smith hurt and unlikely to play, Witten rostered in every league)

WASH @ NYG (Cooley and Shockey rostered in probably every league)

CHI @ MIN (Desmond Clark/Greg Olsen could be available, Visanthe Shiancoe also likely available).

Based on the TE's who are likely available, I rank them the following way:

Greg Olsen

Desmond Clark

McHugh

Miller

Shiancoe

Anyways, just wanted to try and help out some fellow Gates owners who might be in round 1 of their playoffs. Better to plan ahead and have your backup plan ready just in case Gates can't go.

Same dilemma, though with no option to pick up a third tight end-- it's just Daniels and Gates. So I'll have to decide whether to take the four to five points Owen is good for . . . or cross my fingers and hope Gates doesn't give me a zero. Hopefully the Chargers practice report will come out before kickoff tonight.ETA:

"Six other Chargers did not practice: defensive end Luis Castillo (ankle), tight end Antonio Gates (back), guard Mike Goff (foot), linebacker Shawne Merriman (knee), fullback Lorenzo Neal (leg) and nose tackle Jamal Williams (ankle). It appears all but Gates and Goff will miss the Detroit game."

I thought I was being clever by picking up Scheffler just before the WW closed 2 weeks ago. Why didn't I just grab a TE who didn't have any Thursday games?!?

:lmao:

Got a reply on the San Diego message board. Apparently Norv said Gates practiced today and looked okay. Poster said it sounds like a GTD.
