I had Gates as well and lost by 2.35 points. I had Jimmy Graham on the bench as well. I still think I will go with Gates but it would have been nice if he could have caught a couple of balls in my PPR league.
In week 1 he was productive while MIN more or less went all out to prevent V.Jax from catching anything deep.
Week 2 NE bracketed him early in the game, and coincidentally V.Jax (and Floyd before his injury) runs wild in the secondary. Later he was being covered 1 on 1 but Rivers had a few uncharacteristically poor throws to him.
It might just be different defenses are focusing on stopping one or the other. Don't get me wrong, he is getting a little older but having watched the game he was getting plenty of attention early in that NE game. He wasn't getting as much separation as I'm used to seeing but he seemed to be moving fluidly to me. It could also be that Rivers chose to continue feeding the hot receiver.
Lastly, he's a TE. Just about every TE shoots a blank once in awhile. I wouldn't worry until it becomes a pattern... but that's just me.
I think that he was both 1)taken out of the game by gameplan from NE, and 2)dealing with something healthwise as he was being looked at on the sidelines in the 4th.
Maybe its missed practices this week, maybe its more weak production vs KC this weekend.. I dont know and dont have a link. Just my gut.
Obviously I want to be very very wrong and see him go for 10/100/2 this weekend but time will tell.
