Gator Pro Day (1 Viewer)

From today's Gainesville Sun:

Nelson ran a 4.3 40, his agent said he was timed between 4.31 and 4.35. Agent also said his three-cone/agility drill was the fastest to date this year. Don't know if that's true or not, that's the agent's statement according to the local paper. Nelson is also quoted as saying his hamstring was bothering him at the combine, and that's why his time was so poor there.

Moss ran a 4.7 40, and supposedly looked good in the drills. McDonald ran a 4.8 40, Everett a 4.6. Siler, Ryan Smith and Wynn didn't run, apparently happy with their combine times.

Here's a link to the article online.

Gainesville Sun

I think there are more precise times listed at NFL.com.

Good to see Nelson run so well. I was really surprised at his combine time given how quick he's looked in games.

Players with great instincts often times look faster than they really are. Nelson was one such player in college IMO. We'll have to see if he can carry that over to the NFL. I'm not sure why he had been getting a bad wrap proir to this workout, I think he should be much closer to Landry than most are saying.

I understand the whole "instincts make you look faster" thing, but I don't think that was the case with RFN. I mean, Florida's most common defense was a 1-deep zone where Nelson basically just played centerfield and covered sideline-to-sideline... and he *MADE PLAYS* from sideline-to-sideline. His range was absurd, way better than could be accounted for solely by "insticts". I think Nelson's 4.3 is legit. He has a very similar skillset to Sean Taylor (covers like Dawkins, hits like Roy Williams), except without the whole spitting thing. Personally, I was hoping that he ran poorly at Florida's pro day, too, and then hopefully he could have fallen all the way to my Broncos, who are in dire need of some youth at safety. With a 4.3, though, no way he lasts that long.

Guy looks incredible on tape running those drills and sprints.

Of course looks mean a lot in the nfl...

Nelson was playing nearly 15 yds deep presnap in the cover 1 look. He was basically just reading plays and reacting on them.... like you said, a centerfielder. His insticts are very much what made him so dominanate in college. He rarley made the wrong reads, baited QBs to throw, has tremendous ball skills for a S and never takes poor angles. The angle becomes easier the deeper you are as well as seeing the field becomse easier with depth. Nelson is fast, but his most impressive attributes are not speed. Not even top 3 IMO.He is similar to Taylor, but he doesn't tackle half as well if you ask me.

I don't know how he compares to Taylor, but tackling is not a liability in his game. He's a sure tackler, and he hits bigger than you'd expect based on his size.

I'm not knocking him for tackling. Taylor tackles like a LB.
