Gerald Hayes, grab him if you can (1 Viewer)

Those of you who watched the Cards/Bears game may have noticed that the announced starters at LB for Arizona were Pace, Darling and Huff. Both the official game book and the eyeball test prove differently (thank you DVR).

The Cards started Hayes in the middle and Darling on the weak side. Hayes also stayed on the field in the nickel package and made playes all over the field. If he didn't make the tackle it seemed like he was in the picture on nearly every play. If he can stay healthy this guy could be huge this year. Especially with Dansby fighting the toe injury. I wouldn't go cutting a proven solid player but if you have room you may want to make the move for Hayes before everyone sees the week 1 box scores.

Best of luck to everyone!

Thanks for the info Norton. Is A Wilson still going to be stacking the line to gobble up tackles again this year?

Looks like Rapture and I were only one injury and one year off but still made the right call ...
While everyone was kicking Beaumont and I when Gerald Hayes was down should owe us an apology. We were the only people who stood tall through this whole ordeal and now our patience is going to reward us substantially.Right now a guy by the name of Spartans is probably kicking himself right now. This is all I have to say to him ....forecasting my friend is the ultimate reward and you wil be haunted by this move for many years. I'm not calling you out, I am just stating the facts and your team is falling hard - very fast.Beaumont your my kind of guy. You are very intelligent and you do not get the respect you deserve. -OutRAPTURE

It appears as if Hayes and Darling were the nickle LB's against the Bears. I'm not sure who will get bumped when / if Dansby returns, but this is definitely good news Hayes in the time being.

If Dansby returns will his opportunity drop? I've already got A Wilson on my roster but Hayes has been on my watch list...cut a quality WLB like A. Crowell or EJ Henderson for Hayes? TIA

Who else is on your roster.

I like the two guys you mentioned for this upcoming season. Do you have any DB's who you can get rid of? Crowell could possibly pass up L. Fletcher for tackles this season and EJ Henderson is entrenched as the WLB for the Vikes. Henderson has a greater chance of getting benched out of the three guys - Henderson, Crowell, and Hayes. Though, I would try to cut someone else to pick up Hayes. You gotta do it!

Kudos to Beau and Rapture for sticking to their guns. I read last summers posts on the subject and although as you stated, you were a year off, you eventually got your man in the middle.

Now two questions...

Do you think Hayes is able to stay healthy and play 16 games?

Do you think that a MLB in Green's system will be worthy of top 24 status?

It has been quite some time since a MLB for Green scored well.

Thanks! If I had to guess I would say top 40, with upside in the 15-20 range, which is not great but is a far cry from what you will pay/paid for Hayes ...I tend to see health as a product of fortune and not forcasting ...ETA: Make that top 45 with upside 20-25 ... need to stay realistic here ... :banned:

It could be worse. I could have Roaf on my roster with a monster salary

Just traded Aaron Kampman for Hayes. My other DL are Mathis, Simeon, and Vanden Bosch so I could afford to take the shot.

I am seriously thinking about dropping Crowder or EJ for Hayes.
Crowder...maybe.Henderson...no. It's already confirmed that Henderson is a 3-down WLB playing in a Cover-2 D. What could be more perfect??
Here is one other concern that I have. Adrian Wilson is also on my squad. If I trade for Hayes, I will have two defensive Cardinals starting. For some reason, I just don't like starting 2 players from the same defense. Has anybody else done this and had success? Will Hayes' awesome play take away from Wilson's production? Last game, Hayes had like 7 solos and Wilson only had about 2. But Wilson is a stud and gets sacks, Fumble Rec, etc... Maybe I should sell high on Wilson if I grab Hayes?

Nortobc, I start London Fletcher, Terrence McGee (we award pts. for kick returns) and Aaron Schobel on a weekly basis. A stud like A. Wilson will continue to put up stats regardless of the superior play of Gerald Hayes. Look at Ed Reed and Ray Lewis a couple of years ago. A dominating DB and LB can coexist and would eat up some stats from players like Robert Griffith, Orlando Huff, and James Darling.Overall, Gerald Hayes will be 3-down LB and I will not be surprise to see him as a top 20 LB.RAPTURE

Thanks for the reply. I am itching to get Hayes and drop Crowder.

I hope you don't have a dynasty team. Dropping Hayes for Crowder is nuts. Crowder is going to be a stud for years to come. As for Hayes he may start this year but you better believe the following offseason they are going to beef up the lb corps (especially with Dansby in trouble) that means bye bye Hayes.

Do you own a dyanasy team? If so, who are your players on the defensive side on your team. Please elaborate!!

I am in a keeper league where we keep 4 offensive and 4 defensive players. My defense is:

DL - Peppers

DL - S. Rice

DL - Bryan Thomas

LB - Urlacher

LB - Bulluck

LB - Crowder

LB - EJ Henderson

DB - A. Wilson

DB - S. Taylor

DB - L. Milloy

DB - N. Ferguson

From last year I kept Peppers, Wilson, Urlacher, and Bulluck.

When was this confirmed? Everything I've seen in Minny has EJ leaving the field on 3rd downs. Which would make sense since he's sucktastic in coverage.Given the choice of dropping Crowder or Henderson to make a move on Hayes, I drop Henderson every time.

Last note from the Vikings LB thread. Unless something has changed this weekend, Henderson and Harris are the likely nickel backers, although I think Norton has speculated that Thomas may be gaining on Harris, especially in coverage situations.
Vikings | Leber not participating in nickel package Published Fri Aug 11 10:37:00 p.m. ET 2006 (KFFL) Mike Wobschall, of Vikings.com, reports Minnesota Vikings LB Ben Leber is not participating in the team's nickel package. LB Napoleon Harris and LB E.J. Henderson are the two linebackers included in the package.
In any event, there's no good answer to your question. If you need production now, you keep Henderson. Since it's a back-end cut, I think hard about keeping Crowder's potential around. Although Henderson has top 20 potential in his current situation, I'm still not convinced he'll be able to take advantage of it.

Since it is a keeper league and not dynasty, we do not have roster space to "store" players for the future. I will probably drop Crowder and pickup Hayes in our pre-season free agent period. If my season starts going down the tubes, I can always pick up Crowder late in the season for next year. Thanks for the help guys.

Well on my best dynasty team here are my linebackers.

My backups:

Channing Crowder

Barrett Ruud

Brian Simmons

Lemar Marshall

My Starters: I think you may of heard of some of these guys.

Jonathon Vilma

Lofa Tatupu

Andra Davis

Will Witherspoon

As you can see he would be my 8th best linebacker on my squad (by the way I only have one old player on this squad) so I really don't need Hayes. Enjoy him this year then he will be replaced. WRITE IT DOWN!

Cardinals | Mitchell waived/injured

Sat, 2 Sep 2006 13:40:32 -0700

The Arizona Cardinals have waived/injured LB Lance Mitchell (ankle).

I am seriously thinking about dropping Crowder or EJ for Hayes.

Ahhh, yeah. Do not let this be a rule that guides you. Having players on the same team is not bad at all. I've had Vilma/Coleman, Lewis/Suggs (and Reed), Bruschi/Harrison and Fletcher/Schobel to name just a few. Hayes is going to be a stud if healthy. Good luck!

MLB Hayes Solidifying Starting Spot

Darren Urban, East Valley Tribune - [Full Article]

It took four seasons for MLB Gerald Hayes to finally get here, and even now, the Cardinals’ middle linebacker doesn’t feel he’s solidified his spot in the lineup. “Not yet,” Hayes quickly said. “Not yet.” After three starts, Hayes leads the team in tackles (23, 20 of them solo) and has added a sack, an interception and two fumble recoveries. “I think they are starting to get a taste of what I’ve got to offer,” Hayes said. “I’m not really worried about leading the team in tackles or all the other stuff. It’s good for our team, but whatever I can do to help out.”

I am sooooo glad that I picked Hayes up in both of my leagues.

ditto. so far, so good

FYI: Heard on Fox sports radio 30 minutes ago that several Cardinals walked out of a team meeting this week. Gerald Hayes was among them. It was Jay Glazer reporting this.

A little more on the recent ARZ team meeting problem. I don't believe it means anything for us but in case anyone was interested...

Monday has not been kind to Cardinals

By Darren Urban, Tribune

October 16, 2006

Cards vs. Bears, 5:30 pm, ESPN

University of Phoenix Stadium

Bryant Johnson interrupted the interview going on with fellow receiver Anquan Boldin, incredulous at the question just posed by rookie practice squad wideout Micheal Spurlock. “Did you just hear what this dude asked?” Johnson said, his voice revealing his disappointment in his teammate.

“ ‘Did we have a Monday Night game last year . . .’ ”

Then Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer reported Sunday a host of problems behind the scenes. Glazer said defensive end Bertrand Berry and linebacker Gerald Hayes walked out of a defensive meeting this week, and in another incident, veteran safety Robert Griffith had to be separated from defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast.

This is the first game that I really got to watch him play in...he looked solid in the middle and seemed to be around the ball all night.
