Giants Cut Brandon Myles (1 Viewer)

So Brandon Myles barely made it two weeks with his first team. This whole situation is leaving me

- It was almost unanimous that Myles was one of the best 3 or 4 WRs at the Senior Bowl, yet he didn't get a combine invite.

- He had excellent measureables at his pro day, yet he didn't get drafted.

- He got a UDFA contract, yet he only lasted through the rookie minicamp.

I'm going to be asking around to find out exactly what went wrong here - if any Giants homers or WVU homers hear/see anything, please post it in this thread.

Brandon, we barely knew ya...

Very surprising indeed. If this isn't more than a necessity cut, I'm sure he'll get a shot elsewhere. But a shocker to be sure. I guess the most plausible reason is that he was among a group of young receivers vying for the #6 WR spot. Guess they thought either Mix or Jennings was a better option.

6 WR? Few teams(if any) had 6 WRs on their active roster last year at one time. Practice squad maybe. His chances of even making the team were real real slim. While the Giants aren't super at WR they do have alot of depth

Rolling with your number of 6

Toomer is a nice vet to have around and he was really missed last year

Plax is their best WR

Sinorice should be at least decent with his hands and shiftiness

Steve Smith draft pick...save a spot for him

Tyree is excellent on special teams

Jennings is a guy that couldn't possibly want "it" more or try any harder. They'll hang onto him as long as they can have his great work ethic around.

Two other rooks look real good (like many do in rookie mini camp but....)

He was the goof that was lining up in the wrong spot or running the wrong route or somesuch. Coughlin alludes to it in a few articles out there but doesn't single him out by name.

Your turn, tell me about Marco Thomas instead :lmao:

BBI has this

Marco Thomas was signed by the Giants as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Western Illinois after the 2007 NFL Draft. Thomas lacks size, but he is a smart, tough, feisty receiver. Smooth, quick, and fluid. Thomas ran under 4.4 at his pro day, but he does not play that fast. Not explosive. Thomas runs good routes. Has a feel for getting open and has good hands. In 2006, Thomas caught 58 passes for 738 yards (12.7 yards per catch) and 4 touchdowns. In 2005, he caught 43 passes for 794 yards (18.5 yards per catch) and 5 touchdowns. After the draft, Thomas also received contract offers from the Eagles, Bears, Steelers, Jets, and Lions.

I thought I read somewhere that Myles didn't interview well when he did talk to teams (wasn't at the combine). Not sure if it was attitude or ignorance, but either way.....

You know as much about Thomas as I do. Everyone who just read that blurb does. I never got a chance to scout him. Anthony Mix is the sleeper here - sounds like he has come a long way in the last year.

Courtney Taylor seems like Anthony Mix a year later.edited to add that wasn't Mix the one they thought they would move to TE in the pros? Ton of WRs from Auburn last year.

I saw all those teams interested in Marco and figured he was well on the radar, oh well. You certainly cover more than enough college players.

Brandon is a soft spoken team guy who does put in the effort. Never had issues on or off the field. I have no idea why he didnt make it only 2 weeks into camp. The story hasnt broke on the WVU front, Ill see if I can find out anything.

You're right but 6 doesn't seem too outrageous in open-competition. I could easily see the Jaguars rolling with 6 receivers this season. Regardless, I was using this position breakdown from one of the Giants' forums.QB-3

RB-3

FB-1

WR-6

TE-3

OL-10

DE-4

DT-4

LB-6

CB-6

S-4

P-1

K-1

LS-1

Sorta reminds me of how Fred Gibson went from being a pretty highly rated WR to nothing in a span of a few weeks.

He's now trying to catch on with the Falcons. For a 4th rounder to be cut as quickly as Gibson was... it makes you wonder what was going on behind the scenes - much like this situation, great call.

Did you ever read the book about the draft? It follows Gibson through the process. Let me find a link. Here you go: Good book

He went to WVU. The answer is 'off the field' problems.
That's great, you probably know nothing about Myles and associate him with Pac and Henry. Not right. I'd associate those two with the NFL more than WVU. WVU has nothing to do with their actions in the league. Plenty of bad apples in the NFL.

Actually, I don't know him personally, but he was on my fantasy NCAA team last year. And don't pretend that Pac and Henry are the only thugs to come out of WVU...

Soooo does that mean that any player out of VT and/or UM, etc are also thugs? I am very interested to hear your long list of WVU thugs.tia

The Giants carried 6 WRs last year (Plax, Toomer, Moss, Carter, Tyree, Jennings). I expect they'll do the same this year.I doubt Jennings is the sixth again. He didn't justify his spot last year and they really like Mix.
