Gimme 1 book that you read in its entirety, but absolutely hated. (1 Viewer)

Rage was one of the best pieces of fiction I’ve ever read. Yes, it should be banned
No it shouldn't. And it hasn't. King simply let it fall out of print. I assume he felt somehow partially responsible for subsequent school shootings, which is ridiculous, but he feels what he feels. If he thought no longer making new copies available would somehow eliminate or even reduce gun violence, he was sadly mistaken.

In any case, you can find the Bachman book (with all 4 stories); here's a copy at Amazon going for a very reasonable $225.99.
I just got for $1 at the library. The one I got actually looks less roughed up than that.
Someone just sold a copy of it on ebay for $200 so it seems like that price is legit.

A memoir - Running With Scissors.

I got no value out of reading about this guy. I've forgotten most of this and what I do remember, I wish I hadn't.
Never read it, but was dragged into see the movie version. One of the worst movies I’ve ever seen.

I'm not an avid reader at all. I'm surprised by how many books mentioned in here that I have read. Even more surprised that I liked most of them. slowly backs out of thread
Unless they were required reading, even recognizing many of these books makes you an avid reader, imo.

But this is coming from a lifetime aliterate. That said, I've completed 4 books in the last couple years, which is more than the previous 30 years, combined. For the question posed in the OP, I disliked The Blue Zones, but didn't hate it. Too much anecdote, not enough science.

Maybe the topic for another thread, but how many books are you guys reading per year?
maybe 1 a month? i've been a reader all my life, largely non-fiction, but not reading at the incredible pace of some other people i know.

one of my wife's friends will blow through a 400 page novel a week.
Yeah, my sister was (is?) a book-a-week kinda person. She was also a much better student than I, though far less physically active.

I mean, it’s not like I don’t read journals and stuff on the internet, but don’t have the patience or attention span to commit several hours/days/weeks to a single storyline. Same goes for tv series. Even some movies are too much.

books and football are basically the only things i can focus on for any length of time. no idea why. my mind is way too easily distracted for much of anything else.

I used to spend hours upon hours on football, including pre-sunset to sundown on Sunday, watching NFL.

Now, it’s rare I watch an entire game 🤷‍♂️

Didn't he make a bunch of it up and get caught. To where it was only a memoir "in spirit" or something like that?

Had to read Dickens in high school...worst days of my life.

That being said, my Biochemistry textbook was extremely brutal and I had to read that thing over a semester cover to cover. (but I don't think we're talking about textbooks here)

The Old Man and The Sea

"oh woe is me, oh joe dimaggio, oh woe is me" Stupidest book ever written.
This is 3 away in my Pulitzer campaign. I read it in high school, so I've already got it counted as complete in my reckoning. However, given the hatred, I might re-read it. I don't recally thinking it was awful, I just never got the love for it.

Grapes of Wrath. Steinbeck is a pretentious ***. Will never read his dreck again.
The one book I always wanted to go back and read more of/again was "Travels with Charley". I remember having to read at least part of this back in school and loved it. Has always had me dream of a day of doing the same. One day it still might happen.
