Clemente had 100 more OF assists but 70 more OF errors than KalineKaline had 16 more RF assists over his career than Clemente, with a about 4/5 the chances. Kaline was the slightly better player but these two players had eerily similar careers. They played at the same time, Clemente had 3000 hits and Kaline 3007. Clemente's OPS+ was 130 for his career, Kaline's was 134. Kaline hit more homers and stole more bases, Clemente had a higher average. Career WARS have Kaline 28th, Clemente 38th. Kaline's range factor a touch higher as a RF, but they are almost identical numbers. Never really thought about it before and not sure why since both were so good for so long.
Good catch, I was looking at the wrong column (in fact I was looking at errors). I was wondering, Clemente had a legendary arm and while Kaline's was terrific, I never thought it would be as good as Clemente's. And it wasn't. Still, these players are pretty damn even overall and in many key stats and metrics.Clemente had 100 more OF assists but 70 more OF errors than KalineKaline had 16 more RF assists over his career than Clemente, with a about 4/5 the chances.
