GM's thread about nothing

We were supposed to have my parents over for dinner tonight but my Mom is sick. When I left the house at noon, Mrs. SLB was furiously cleaning. I think I'll wait another or hour or so before I tell her they aren't coming over.
 Can you say "weekend with nothing to do?"

Driving home today I was behind a minivan with those stupid cartoon members of the family in the corner of the window. It went Dad, Mom, older girl, older girl, younger girl, younger girl, cat, cat, cat. Then in the upper corner of the window was another cat on its side (assuming that means one died). How quickly would you drive into a tree if that was you?

Yeah, I'd be pretty distraught over the death of my cat too

OK, my card-counting drills are no longer a challenge, so I need to replicate casino conditions.

TV loud. Longhorn basketball now, maybe Jim Cramer later.

Pretenders on the stereo.

Fired up an Alex Jones video on YouTube (Not getting political, he just yells a lot).

Oh, and I'm swilling an industrial-strength cocktail.

Thoughts?

30 seconds, 30 seconds, 27 secondsI'll see how long it takes me to count down a deck later

Speaking of funny, did you guys realize that Jack Handey was writing occasional humor pieces for The New Yorker? Heck, did you even know that Jack Handey wasn't made up? Anyhow, you should, because they are excellent.

At last someone makes a worthwhile post around here. Unsurprisingly, it was someone from the northeast.

Weird B&M friend question...this might be kind of long...A GB of mine had surgery on his teeth about 3 years ago. He was pretty standoffish about it and almost never smiled afterwards because he was embarrassed about it. Not that he had bad teeth or anything but when we did catch him laughing, he had new teeth and they looked great. We are guessing that it was something deeper than just the surface of his teeth, but whatever.Fast forward to last March. He said he had to undergo some more surgery and would be out of commission for a while (but never said anything about his teeth/mouth). It got postponed twice and long story short he couldn't make my wedding. No problem, he sent a card stating as such and we completely understood. He did tell us that he would be out of work for at least 6 weeks.Fast forward to now and none of our group of friends have seen him in almost a year. When we would contact him his only response would be "I can't/won't come out right now". He wouldn't accept invites to come out nor would he allow any home visits (single 36 year old man) He went to Brewer, Packers and Bucks games by himself (and posted pictures on FB), he wouldn't offer any insight as to what was going on. 95% of our "clique" have been friends since grade school. We're a pretty tight-knit group. His name is Chris. Often we would joke that he would come back to us as Christina, since he was hiding so much. Well, a few GBs were bowling tonight so I went to join them and watch Marquette #### the bed. Halfway through bowling Chris showed up. He looked the same and everyone was saying "Holy ####! How have you been?! We haven't seen you in almost a year" All he offered was "I've been away"I didn't press and just asked how he had been doing. I figure that if he wants to tell me/us something, he will. He had 2 beers and called it a night and said "I've got to get back into drinking shape"I'm not sure what I'm asking, but has anyone ever dealt with a close friend that dropped off the face of the earth for medical reasons, only to show up and not mention anything? This guy does not do drugs, he does not date at all (men or women), doesn't do anything that would be cause for concern, and doesn't live a lifestyle that would lead to a year+ long procedure....I just don't know. I don't want to violate his privacy, yet I'm concerned for my friend.SOrry for serious-ing up the thread again
How did he usually do with the ladies? You say he's 36 and single and insanely self-conscious. Is this a 'quiet & rarely dates' single or a 'swinging Guster/Zooks' single?

Quiet and rarely dates. He asks me for advice on women all the time. He's just way to shy/unconfident.We texted a bit today and I told him that whatever the issue is, isn't important (that can't be grammatically correct, right?). I told him "You're my friend and I respect your privacy. But don't be a stranger and don't ever feel that you'll be judged for anything" and I left it at that.I had some GBs over to watch basketball tourney games and play cards tonight so he stopped by. He acted like his normal self and not uncomfortable like last night. Again, we didn't press why he's been off the grid for a year. We all know it was a medical issue and have pretty much conceded the fact that he won't tell us until we get him buzzed up in a few years. We all agreed that the situation is strange but we should leave it alone.I was a bit buzzed when I typed that up last night. Probably made a bigger deal out of it than I meant to.

I hope you drive into a tree quickly.

Fun day today. Starting off by taking my daughter to gymnastics and a 6 year old birthday party. Then I'm dropping her off with her mom, heading to Stout Fest and riding up to Columbus for the Head and the Heart concert.

Disco Stu know you stole his itinerary?

Anything good in that "Woz is getting married" thread? I don't feel like reading through all of it, can someone post the funny stuff here for me?

In a little while I'll be heading to a "HomeShow" to work in my company's booth. And by work, I mean I'll be looking at people with funny haircuts and clothes etc. Also, every booth at this show has some kind of raffle prize, so I was thinking maybe everyone in here could post your real names and addresses and I'll personally enter you in all the raffles. Your welcome and good luck.

Unbeknownst to me it is Biker Week in Daytona this week and next week besides Spring Break. Traffic was turrible. An errand that usually takes me half an hour today took 2 hours. Mixed grill and a new green recipe just might make things better. :sadbanana:

This is very big of you. The reason I ask is because your first sentence describes my freshman year roommate, before he accepted that he was forcing himself toward women because he was lonely, and he was lonely because he couldn't admit that he was into guys. Once he finally accepted it he was reborn. He smiled all the time, became outgoing, and in general was just a much, much happier person.

Have you considered that your friend might be gay? Maybe over the past year he either -

1. Accepted it and collapsed in depression & (hopefully) went to therapy and is trying to reintegrate into his life, and is waiting for an opportune time to reveal it.

2. Accepted it, met a guy, then it ended and he went crawling back to his "old" life.

Obviously I'm only seeing 10% of the picture here. I just thought I'd throw it out there in case you overlooked it.

Gay dudes accepting themselves is real tough. Coming out is like suicide for some of them: it's a complete shattering of their identity. The problem is that not coming out is insanely stressful and very depressing. It can really eat up a guy.
