Looks like Phil's foot is/was in worse shape than he was letting on up to the divisional game, or he really really doesn't want to play for Belichick:

Rivers pulls out of Pro Bowl with foot injury

MOBILE, Ala. – Philip Rivers has withdrawn from the Pro Bowl because of the foot injury he suffered in the regular-season finale.

Rivers aggravated the sprain enough that it was likely he would not have played had the Chargers advanced to the AFC Championship Game, according to team sources.

Rivers completed 14-of-32 passes for 230 yards in the Chargers' 24-21 loss to New England in the divisional round of the playoffs.

The Chargers will still send a league-high and team-record nine players to Honolulu for the Feb. 10 all-star game. Shawne Merriman has been rehabbing the knee injury he suffered in the playoff game, but he expects to play in Hawaii.

Lights, camera?

Not that it matters to the Chargers for another year or so – when it is time to renegotiate his contract – but Merriman has selected a new agent.

Tom Condon, who has sparred with the team recently over clients Donnie Edwards and Drew Brees, is now representing Merriman.

Condon, perhaps the game's most powerful agent, is affiliated with Creative Artists Agency.

Said Merriman, who has designs on an entertainment career: “CAA is one of the most powerful agencies. I think it's a perfect fit for me.”

Nunnely staying

Defensive line coach Wayne Nunnely will remain with the Chargers after being offered the same job in Arizona.

Nunnely was the only Chargers assistant who did not sign an extension after the 2004 season, so his contract was up. But he has agreed to the new two-year contract offered all assistants last week.

Does anyone still watch the Pro Bowl? I remember I used to many years ago, but lost interest about 10 years ago.

Clarence Shelmon?Really?Somebody make me feel good about this.
He's done a good job as the RB coach. Once Cameron and Chud left, the obvious choices from within the organization were Shelmon and Ramsdell (no offense to Lofton). One good thing about promoting Shelmon is that Ramsdell will get to keep working with the quarterbacks*. I think he did a great job with Rivers this year. If Ramsdell had been named OC, he would not get to spend as much time with the QBs.________*Unless Wade Phillips takes him to be the Cowboys' OC.

I'm a "Brady fan", and I don't think this is good news. I don't really care if Brady actually plays in the Pro Bowl - the reason that Brady fans were annoyed is because we didn't think that Rivers should've gotten in before Brady - whether or not Rivers plays is irrelevant since Brady would still be behind Rivers.

I bet Brady doesn't even end up going for one reason or another.

But bottom line is in the grand scheme of things, Pro Bowl isn't really a big deal. Do I think Brady should've gotten in over Rivers? Yeah. Do I really care that much? No.
