Goodell looking at a 17 game schedule (1 Viewer)

I don't like it. I love football but all good things must come to an end, even if it is a football season.

There are a lot of historic records in place and you can throw all of those out with the addition of games. I know they've done it in the past but I like being able to compare seasons and it is ashame you have to compare a 17 game season to a 12 game season by Jim Brown.

If there was something wrong with the NFL's schedule, I'd support the addition........but the sole purpose is just to make more money, I'm against it. The last week of football for most teams is a garbage week anyway. You're either resting players for the playoffs or you're putting in scrubs to see if they have potential for next year.

Every sport has increased its games played at some point, they also expand the league. What if a purpose was to give the fans more of what they want?

was listening to mike and the mad dog go on about this yesterday and they mentioned the additional game in the 18 week season would annually alternate between the AFC and NFC for the extra home game.

Although, the suggestions earlier in this thread regarding a neutral site to broaden the exposure of the NFL, which they didn't mention, is a smart idea. I see the greed point, but still a good idea.

2 weeks of preseason (already mentioned) and the Super Bowl would be played on the Sunday of President's Day weekend.

Because it says in the article on page 1 that its to add revenue for the league so that they'd make more money and that the players and owners could come to an agreement easier because of the money made. It's all because of money, believe me.I know that at some point all the major sports have added games, but at some point enough is enough. I'd absolutely hate it if baseball added 5 or 10 games, just think of all the records that would be broken. What is 1 game extra a year really going to do for me? I'd rather have everything stay the way it is.....that's me.

If you think the last week of the regular season is pointless, you should check out the final preseason game. That argument doesn't really hold water.I don't think record-breaking or historical comparision is a very good reason to stop a season from expanding for a game.

I'm with my neighbor fatness here (Westminster solidarity, baby!). The attrition rate is already horrible and the schedule is wonderfully balanced as it is. While I like to watch as much pro football as possible, making the season even more of a grind than it already is offsets any benefits to having more regular season games.

I don't think the NFLPA is gonna give on this issue either, unless there's an awfully big payoff in it for the players elsewhere.

How about their reason to do it........which is to make money. Is that a good reason FOR scheduling another game?It ain't broke, don't fix it. There's nothing wrong with what they're currently doing, they just want to make more money.

Agreed, although there may be a couple quality games at the end of the season..........try living in Detroit where the seasons are over by Thanksgiving.Attending games in December is a joke. I've seen D. Stanton play all I needed at MSU when he was there, I'll pass when he's in there at the end of the year this year when I know having a game 17 is a bad idea for a team that wished the season was only 12 games long.

I know what the article says, I just don't really care what their reason is. The idea wouldn't have legs if the fans wouldn't support it. If you don't want the 17th game, great, don't watch it or attend. I enjoy the game enough to want another game or two. 52 games would be too much, but 18 isn't IMO.ETA: the only issue I have with this is the balance. If they come up with a workable schedule that makes sense, which I assume they will, I'm for it. If it gets screwed up, then I'm not.
