Predict the Wild Card Weekend schedule (1 Viewer)

Here's my stab at it...

Saturday, 4:30 - This is the Houston Invitational. The Texans will be hosting, only question is if it's Pittsburgh or the Chargers. I'm predicting a Steelers loss to the Bengals, which would put the Chargers in this game
Saturday 8 - I think Buffalo and Baltimore host the Saturday and Sunday night games. If the Ravens play the Steelers, then Baltimore hosts the Saturday night game, since both these teams are playing on Saturday in Week 18, putting them in this slot keeps every playoff team in both conferences on 7 days rest for the Wild Card Round. But if the Ravens host the Chargers they wouldn't make LA fly cross country on a short week to play a team with an extra day of rest, so in that scenario this is where the Denver-Buffalo game lands. NFL seems to love the drama of having frigid night games in Buffalo, the chance for snow is an added bonus.

Sunday, 1 - NFC South champ (presumably Tampa) vs Washington (or vs the NFC North runner-up, if the Rams win in Week 18 to grab the #3 seed). But either way, this is the spot where the NFC South champ hosts
Sunday 4:30 - Rams host NFC North runner-up or Washington
Sunday, 8 - Buffalo hosts Denver (unless the Steelers are the #5 seed in which case this is when Baltimore hosts the latest edition of the Harbowl)

Monday, 8 - Green Bay at Philly

I think you're probably right about the Bills and Ravens being on Saturday and Sunday night. That makes a huge amount of sense for ratings purposes.

Okay so the Monday is always a 4/5 game.
They are totally putting the Minnesota/Detroit loser in that time slot. I think that is the one sure bet bc they of the Sunday night game tonight.

I think if the Bengals pull off the miracle it is likely they put them on Sunday to not disadvantage the 2 seed Bills.

Houston is totally 4pm Saturday as that is the law. That goes double if they play the Chargers

If Seattle and Denver win…

Sat
430 Chargers @ Texans
8:00 Green Bay at Philly

Sun

1:00 Commies at Bucs
4:30 Broncos at Bills
SNF Steeler at Ravens

MNF
North runner up at Rams

I’d expect it to look like this. What I’m not sure of is whether FOX or NBC has priority for the better Sunday game. I wonder if GB/PHI being on Peacock in week 1 factors in. I’m gonna predict that it does and that GB/PHI ends up in the FOX Sunday slot.

Sat 4:30 - at Houston, Prime
Sat 8:00 - at Buffalo, CBS

Sun 1:00 - at Baltimore, CBS
Sun 4:30 - NFC 2/7 or 3/6, FOX (leaning GB/PHI here)
Sun 8:00 - NFC 2/7 or 3/6, NBC

Mon 8:00 - NFC 4/5 game, ESPN/ABC

I am hoping for all the top seeds to be the primetime games but I know that wont happen.

Sat 4:30 - Houston
Sat 8:00 - Philly

Sun 1:00 - Tampa
Sun 4:30 - Rams
Sun 8:00 - Bills

Mon 8:00 - Ravens

Sat 4:30 - Chargers at Houston (duh)
Sat 8:00 - Steelers at Ravens (massive ratings potential)

Sunday 1:00 - Washington at Tampa/Rams
Sunday 4:30 - GB at Eagles
Sunday 8:00 - Denver at Buffalo

Monday - Detroit/Minny at Rams/Tampa.

Sat 4:30 - Chargers at Houston (duh)
Sat 8:00 - Steelers at Ravens (massive ratings potential)

Sunday 1:00 - Washington at Tampa/Rams
Sunday 4:30 - GB at Eagles
Sunday 8:00 - Denver at Buffalo

Monday - Detroit/Minny at Rams/Tampa.
If rams win they won’t be the early Sun game. Maybe switch that and gb and Philly.

Sat 4:30 - Chargers at Houston (duh)
Sat 8:00 - Steelers at Ravens (massive ratings potential)

Sunday 1:00 - Washington at Tampa/Rams
Sunday 4:30 - GB at Eagles
Sunday 8:00 - Denver at Buffalo

Monday - Detroit/Minny at Rams/Tampa.
rams win here do they get washington? lose they get min/det?

Sat 4:30 - Chargers @ Texans
Sat 8:00 - Steelers @ Ravens

Sunday 1:00 - Commanders @ Bucs
Sunday 4:30 - Packers @ Eagles
Sunday 8:15 - Broncos @ Bills

Monday 8:15 - Vikings @ Rams

My guess
Sat 4:30 LAC @ HOU
Sat 8:00 PIT @ BAL

Sun 1:00 WAS @ TB
Sun 4:30 GB @ PHI
Sun 8:00 DEN @ BUF

Mon DET(/MIN) @ LAR

If the 4/5 game is a Monday night game, it makes logical sense that the NFL would put the #2 seed in whatever conference they are putting the Mon. game as a Saturday game so the 4/5 winner isn't playing on Saturday the following week.

Saturday, 4:30 - Chargers at Houston
Saturday 8 - Green Bay at Philadelphia

Sunday, 1 - Pittsburgh at Baltimore
Sunday 4:30 - Denver at Buffalo
Sunday, 8 - Washington at Tampa Bay

Monday, 8 - Det/Min at LA Rams

I think this is far more likely:

Sunday 4:30 - Pittsburgh at Baltimore
Sunday, 8 - Green Bay at Philadelphia

Monday, 8 - Det/Min at LA Rams

Saturday 4:30- LAC at Houston
Saturday 8- Denver at Buffalo

Sunday 1- Pittsburgh at Baltimore
Sunday 4:30- Green Bay at Philadelphia
SNF- Det/Min at LAR

Monday 8- Washington vs Tampa Bay

Sat 4:30 - Chargers at Houston (duh)
Sat 8:00 - Steelers at Ravens (massive ratings potential)

Sunday 1:00 - Washington at Tampa/Rams
Sunday 4:30 - GB at Eagles
Sunday 8:00 - Denver at Buffalo

Massive ratings potential? hahahahahahah. Baltimore will win by 20+ and people will be turning it off early

This would be my guess. It's all about ratings with the NFL and I think this schedule maximizes them

Sat 4- LAC @ HOU
Sat 8- PIT @ BAL
Sun 1- DEN @ BUF
Sun 4- DET/MIN @ LAR
Sun 8- GB @ PHI
Mon 8- WASH @ TB

I think PIT-BAL and GB-PHI are locks for the prime Sunday slots (4:30 and 8:00). LAC-HOU will definitely get Saturday at 4:30 because that's the worst time slot and HOU has that one locked down every year. LAR can't be Sunday at 1, so they are either Saturday night or Monday night. If that 4/5 MNF rule is true, then they'll be Monday. That leaves WAS-TB and DEN-BUF for Saturday night and Sunday at 1. I'll go for some AFC-NFC symmetry at put WAS-TB Saturday night. So, I have...

Saturday, 4:30 - LAC-HOU
Saturday 8 - WAS-TB

Sunday, 1 - DEN-BUF
Sunday 4:30 - GB-PHI
Sunday, 8 - PIT-BAL

Monday, 8 - DET/MIN-LAR

Only one to predict was-tb Sunday night. That is the most curious out of the schedule.

I just had WAS-TB and PIT-BAL flipped.

Agree. I didn't expect that. But, I heard last week's ATL-WAS game was the highest rated SNF game in a few years. I think Jayden brings a lot of eyes.

Did any of us get it right lol?

I think everyone was at least right about LAC at HOU of course. They could book Houston's stadium for the first Sunday of wildcard weekend every year I swear.

I find it slightly curious that the 5th largest city in the country doesn’t get better ratings.

Being new-ish, sharing Texas with Dallas, and no historical success, they probably don't have much of a following outside of Houston. A few teams have national followings and other teams have regional fans.

My son asked if he could stay up to watch the game. I said sure but he would probably want to go to bed by halftime.

Reminder to everybody making your guess, the MNF game has to be one of the 4/5 games.
by rule? or unwritten rule.
Pretty sure it’s a rule. Scheduling reason.
The reason is because the 4/5 game is the only one where you can guarantee that whoever wins will face the same opponent. If you put, say, the 2/7 game on MNF, you wouldn't know until after the game was over whether the 2 seed was going home for the next round or the 7 seed was traveling to play the 1. Which would mean you couldn't lock in either game.

This way, they can figure out by Sunday night at the latest who the 4/5 winner will be playing and lock that in for Sunday to ensure every team gets at least six days off between games.

Also, it just occurred to me that it's probably no accident that the two Saturday games are AFC and MNF is NFC. That way the league can be sure they don't have a team facing an opponent with two extra days rest. I think the general policy is that one day of extra rest isn't a big deal, but more than that is unfair

I feel like there’s a built-in assumption that the league will eventually go to an 18-game season and a 8-team playoff in each conference. But I really wonder how you squeeze two more games into wildcard weekend. Saturday at 1:00 is an obvious one, but beyond that … double up MNF? Do a Friday night game? That would make the scheduling even more complex
