I LOVE Gospel music! I do not mean Christian music, especially white Christian music, which I personally find really dull. I am referring to African-American church music, rich in tradition and at the root of rythym and blues, with strong keyboards, amazing vocals, and incredible emotional power. I'm hoping somebody can recommend more of it to me. "Bridge over Troubled Water" is a classic gospel song- hopefully, that will explain the sort of thing I'm looking for.
Here is a list of simply incredible performers in this genre I have listed to of late:
Mavis Staples
Mabel John
Irma Thomas
Marian Williams
Sam Cooke
Mahalia Jackson
Aretha Franklin
Claude Jeter
