Governor Abbott questions (1 Viewer)

Anyone here from Texas?   What are the actual thoughts on the job he is doing?  I mean I don't live there and I know Texas is pretty much red with some liberal pockets here and there.

From an outsiders POV - I think I'd be kind of pissed with his political stunts with the bussing the migrants and the extra inspections closing the boarder.  I won't comment on the abortion law while the way it is written "with self policing is dumb" - I assume that the state is mostly pro life anyway.

How about the report on the new bill he wants to tackle about no more public education. At first it was for migrants but upon researching its all public education.... Is this something Texans want?

Obviously, pending on your affiliation you will agree/disagree with policies but his seem to be more "extreme" than most....

I'm not looking into an OMG what has you governor done blah blah blah argument so save it.

I'm generally curious if people of the state are supportive of his actions.

ETA: I'm not looking for a fight or a gotcha .....I'm just a northerner that has visited time to time......Just a curious civil discussion

I don't live there but have family there and they're scared out of their wits at how backwards things are becoming there.

FWIW-They moved there a couple years ago for the nephew's job.  They're going to be moving back to the northeast in a year just to get away from there.  I know this isn't referencing your original governor question.  Sorry.

That's ok.  I won't pretend to know what its like to be from there, and I know I have an outsiders perspective - I was generally curious.

I found the public education bill possibility to be very odd on top of the other stuff

I don't live in Texas, but I have been to San Antonio as well as Austin, and in my opinion Texas is unfathomably humid, which seems like something the governor should be held accountable for.

My aunt and uncle live in El Paso, as did my grandparents before they passed away, so I've been to that part of the state for weeks at a time on many occasions. Have also been to Dallas and Austin about a dozen times combined. I love Texas, the people are really among the friendliest people generally from a region that you'd ever want to meet, in my experience there. Great sports traditions, University of Texas is awesome and highly regarded. Amazing food scene. Texas has a lot going for it and I just wanted to start off there because it's not my intention to discuss Texas negatively in a vacuum.

Governor Abbott said Texas going to issue a challenge to Plyer v. Doe. Apparently Texas had laws that allowed the state to withhold funds from local school districts for educating children of undocumented immigrants. It was ruled to be in violation of the Equal Protection Clause (14th). Not being a lawyer, will they argue that those rights don't extend to undocumented immigrants? It's interesting, and by interesting I mean here's yet another example of governing by going after groups of people.

To that note, Texas (and the country in general) is in a bad spot in regards to going after people as a political tactic. People are criminals if they seek an abortion, people are criminals if they have trans kids, let's target these school districts that have the nerve to educate kids of undocumented immigrants, let's go after the teachers doing "CRT". Get 'em!

Why? Frankly I'd speculate that it's (in part) intended to distract the bottom 99% of wealth holders from the power elite structure who laughs their rear ends off all the way to the bank behind the scenes, while the peons are busy fighting over the culture wars perpetuated on their social media feeds. Because in general, IMO, people are good-hearted. I believe that about Texans and about Americans overall. And I believe that politicians are doing us all a disservice by governing in this manner.

Anyway, looking forward to hearing from native Texans, and I hope none of them feel this post is meant to disparage their great state.
