Greatest Football Names of all time (1 Viewer)

I remember watching college football when I was a kid and I have never been able to forget this player's name:Sonny Sixkiller
Me neither...he came to my youth football awards dinner when he was a senior at UW, and signed footballs all night long with a smile, forfree. My main fantasy team is named for him---and yeah, minus the bigots in the front office then, he could have played in the NFL. In the Hall of Names for certain :goodposting:

I was going to mention him in the original post, but I didn't because Sixkiller was only a nickname, and he wasn't referred as Sonny Sixkiller as his name.

Fixed.
Those are/were their official names as referred to and listed in official archives.Just saying. So you didn't "fix" anything.

To add-

Conrad Dobler

Matt Suey
Sorry you don't see the difference between a player with a cool name and one that's just a nickname. Somehow I don't think Billy Johnson's mother referred to him as "White Shoes".

Nope. Sixkiller is his real name, but Sonny is his nickname. Alexander Sixkiller is his legal name, and even without Sonny, still qualifies for the Hall of Great Names. That, added with the fact he was in the original and best version of The Longest Yard---means lock it.

I stand corrected, I should have included him in the original list.

Thre first name I thought of Ironhead Haywood. Then I remembered Craig as his true first name, so he's not a good canidate. WR Golden Richards and DB Spider Lockhart NYG are ideal. Let's also add WR Mike Quick PHI to the consideration list.

A funny-true name story for you... While I was listening to a NCAA radio game in the background, the OSU announcers kept saying.. "The enemy gains 8 yards and a first down.", "The enemy scores.", and so forth. It wasn't until halftime stats were announced that I knew why the announcer was calling the young RB Eric Bieniemy, the enemy. He finished third in the Heisman voting the following season and was a very very good NCAA player. but image hearing the play-by-play of his efforts without the benefit of knowing his name. -Grin-
