If enough people are interested, I'm considering putting together a baseball draft along the same lines as the football draft we just did. The last one was 3 and a half years ago. We had a lot of fun with the football draft, but there were problems too, and I have learned some lessons, I hope. Here is what I propose:
1. I will not play this time, but will be the judge. By doing this, I can guarantee that the judging will be done on a timely basis. I have some friends who are baseball experts who are not in the FFA who have offered to help me with the judging. I also plan on using Bill James Historical Abstract as a primary source to consider evaluation of players (though be warned: I do not necessarily accept his overall order of evaluations.) Anyone else who wants to can be a judge as well if they so choose, but I will not depend on them this time.
2. There will be 20 rounds. Players must select:
1 Manager
5 Starting Pitchers
3 Additional Pitchers (They are designated for middle relief, set up, and closer, but you can choose who you want at these positions.)
1 catcher
1 1st baseman
1 2nd baseman
1 3rd baseman
1 shortstop
1 right fielder
1 left fielder
1 center fielder
2 utility players (outfield, infield)
1 designated hitter (doesn't have to ever have actually played at DH, though)
We'll see if we can get up to 16 participants over the next few weeks. I will bump this thread every day, and also post it on the Baseball discussion page. If not enough people sign up, of course, then we won't bother. But I think it will be fun. Let me know if you're interested.
