If enough people are interested, I'm considering putting together a baseball draft along the same lines as the football draft we just did. The last one was 3 and a half years ago. We had a lot of fun with the football draft, but there were problems too, and I have learned some lessons, I hope. Here is what I propose:

1. I will not play this time, but will be the judge. By doing this, I can guarantee that the judging will be done on a timely basis. I have some friends who are baseball experts who are not in the FFA who have offered to help me with the judging. I also plan on using Bill James Historical Abstract as a primary source to consider evaluation of players (though be warned: I do not necessarily accept his overall order of evaluations.) Anyone else who wants to can be a judge as well if they so choose, but I will not depend on them this time.

2. There will be 20 rounds. Players must select:

1 Manager

5 Starting Pitchers

3 Additional Pitchers (They are designated for middle relief, set up, and closer, but you can choose who you want at these positions.)

1 catcher

1 1st baseman

1 2nd baseman

1 3rd baseman

1 shortstop

1 right fielder

1 left fielder

1 center fielder

2 utility players (outfield, infield)

1 designated hitter (doesn't have to ever have actually played at DH, though)

We'll see if we can get up to 16 participants over the next few weeks. I will bump this thread every day, and also post it on the Baseball discussion page. If not enough people sign up, of course, then we won't bother. But I think it will be fun. Let me know if you're interested.

Whichever you prefer. Right now we need players. I'm sure there will be willing candidates to help me judge later on. Do you want to be a player? We need 7 more.

I'd do the judging but I can't get FBG at work so I couldn't do a draft. Let me know.
I'd be a judge as well. Can't do the draft because I'm travelling for work the next three weeks, but would be able to check in evenings to give my thoughts.

i'm interested in being a judge. built a big spreadsheet and everything to evaluate the previous version of this (you have seen that thread, right?), using the BJHA, win shares, ops+/era+, stats from BP, my own versions of black/gray ink tests, etc.The top 5 in my rankings are:1. Babe Ruth2. Walter Johnson3. Ty Cobb4. Honus Wagner5. Ted WilliamsJust don't have anything on managers, but that should be easy enough to figure out. Everything else is just a matter of entering the new picks in the spreadsheet, and recalcing the pivot table. :banned:
