Greatest Punk Rock Album Ever? (2 Viewers)

I can't believe people are crapping on Bad Religion. One of the best bands ever in any genre.
that one album they put out 26 times is pretty good.
:lmao:
Shark Pool-esque.
don't get me wrong. No Control blew may socks off in 10th (?) grade. Still love it for nostalgia reasons. They've made some fun records. But if we're throwing out Shart Pool disses, "one of the best bands ever in any genre" is like the "Jerry Rice is not a HOF'er thread". There's no possible way I could come up with an argument to even debate that side of the issue.
If you think all of their albums sound identical, I suppose you wouldn't. I just disagree, but I don't feel the need to make an argument for it. Music is subjective - if I think they're one of the best, then they are as far as I'm concerned. I control what gets played on my radios/stereos/devices, no one else. I don't expect anyone to agree with me, if you do, great. I was just a little surprised that they were being dumped on in a punk thread when they're legends in the genre and (IMO) have been a huge help in elevating punk beyond the public (mis)conception of its fan base being comprised solely of a bunch of Mohawk-wearing hooligans with Foster's oil cans and Doc Maartens kicking the snot out of someone in an alley.

Those guys have polished their sound and mastered melody and harmony in their music while still carrying an edge both musically and (especially) lyrically. I don't know if I've ever played a BR record for someone and didn't convert him/her into a fan. Just felt like they deserved some respect.
some hyperbole on my part. I know they don't all sound identical. clearly they slowed down the pace on some of their records. But beyond having about 4 of their records I don't feel the need to get any more of them.

and I don't hate them, nor do I hate you so let's not fight, sunshine. come over here and rub my taint.

I thought you'd never ask... :rubshandstogetherlikemiyagi:

George Michael Anderson 5 months ago

When I was a cashier at a BK franchise about six years ago, two kids dressed up in full punk kit ordered at my register. In point of fact, they ordered the jr. bacon cheeseburgers which are on the cheap menu. When they finished, I said, "So that'll be four anarchy burgers?" which they replied "Hold the government" with a knowing grin.

Stiff Little Fingers - Inflammable Material
Still feel the same about this album. I consider London calling my favorite album all-time but this is my favorite "punk" album

Inflammable Material is the 1979 debut album by the Northern Irish punk band Stiff Little Fingers. Most of the album's tracks are about the "Troubles" and the grim reality of life in Northern Ireland with the songs containing themes of teenage boredom, sectarian violence, police oppression, etc., urging people to "grab it and change it, it's yours" in what became their signature song "Alternative Ulster". The song "Rough Trade" is about the band's view of the music business as being dishonest but have since claimed it is not about the record label which happens to have the same name.

Originally released in 1979, Stiff Little Fingers were Ireland's answer to both the Clash and the Sex Pistols. They had the personal and political stance of the former, and the noisy, pissed off, slash-and-burn musical aesthetic as the latter. Fronted by guitarist and songwriter Jake Burns (he collaborated with journalist Gordon Ogilvie), SLF took off with their two singles "Alternative Ulster," and, for that time, the utterly out of control screaming that was "Suspect Device." These two singles make the purchase price of the album a priority. They represent barely contained youthful anger at social and political mores as righteous, utterly devoid of posturing or falsity and raging to break out. "Alternative Ulster" decries the Irish political sides in the Northern Ireland controversy -- the Royal Ulster Constabulary and the Irish Republican Army -- holding them both accountable for bloodshed and social and economic stasis furthering nothing but their own interests. "Suspect Device" which opens the set, screams at the heart of the conflict, that neither side can be believed as both reduce freedom to a buzzword while wielding guns. Both tracks are calls to arms, but of a different sort -- the arms of dialogue and intelligence in the midst of idiocy and murder. Punk rock never sounded so brutal or positive in one band

The New Bomb Turks's !!Destroy-Oh-Boy!! might be the greatest punk album recorded, back in '93.

So might Dillinger Four's "Midwestern Songs Of The Americas" The nineties were a great decade for punk, and it's just starting to filter down now.  Great time to be there.

Jay Reatard - Blood Visions
Still? I was just laughing. The nature of punk rock changes so much within me, I hear something new in some album every day that gets me to say, "That's the best. No, that is assuredly the best." And it never is.

I love the dynamism of punk.

Awesome. Will check it out.

I enjoyed the Idles' first track but it actually reminded of how savage a mid-nineties indie group, the Toadies, sounded with Heel. Hell Below/Stars Above is a little bit of a classic in its own way. The Toadies, little remembered, reduced to the touring circuit, but relegated there unfairly, IMO.

Heel

Oh my God, "Well Done" is hilarious. Yes, this album is an immediate grabber.

Why don't YOU LIKE RAGGAE? Even Mary Berry likes reggae...
