I was surprised to see this.

Patriots released WR Greg Lewis, according to the National Football Post.Lewis was outplayed by Joey Galloway and undrafted free agent Terrence Nunn in the preseason, catching just three balls for 58 yards to Nunn's 8/133/0 line. Nunn went on the practice squad. Lewis will hit free agency. Source: National Football Post

He did catch a TD in the Super Bowl, and was also a tad better than Pinkston. Other than that, I have to agree...
Yeah I haven't forgotten. That touchdown catch was the highlight of his career. Then he got a lot of playing time the following season (2005) when T.Owens started his nonsense. He looked like he had such potential and then did not much of anything the next 3 years. He is the poster child of mediocrity and underachievement.

This has to be seen as a positive sign, regarding Welker's mysterious injury.

If he was seriously hurt, I'm sure they wouldn't have dropped Lewis.

But was Lewis suited to take Welker's spot? I thought Edelman was more suited to the slot.... I don't think Lewis' release sheds much light on the Welker situation; I wish it did, because I own Welker...but I don't think it does

I like Edelman but don't discount Sam Aiken. They also were able to retain Terrance Nunn on Practice Squad who by all accounts had a very good camp. The writing was on the wall for me early on with Lewis. When he was not in the mix for punt or kick returns it severely hurt his chances.
