Greg Olsen Owners (1 Viewer)

Of course the big news this offseason is that the Bears signed Mike Martz as the OC. Martz has never historically used the TE as a prime pass catcher. Pretty much all experts are in agreement that Olsen's value takes a serious hit for this season at least.

I personally am under the opinion that Martz's stay in Chicago will be short term. Lovie Smith and Jerry Angelo are both on the hot seat. If the Bears have a bad year (don't make the playoffs) both are probably gone. I don't see Martz becoming the HC, or the next HC keeping him around (assuming a losing record).

Greg Olsen was considered a top 10 Dynasty TE going in to last season. Myself as well as many other have him as their TE1. I still think he has good value down the road (only 25). Problem is...whats the plan for 2010?

Is anyone planning to just suck it up and hope for the best?

Trading him? If so For what?

Picking up a cheap flier type TE with upside?

Or making a move for a solid TE?

Bottom line is that 2010 is looking like a speed bump in Olsen's career. I think he becomes a hold because you will not get much in return for him right now. Although I don't think his value remains low for too long. But clearly he should be considered a TE2 going in to this season.

The three guys I have an eye on are Tony Gonzalez, John Carlson and Tony Scheffler.

Gonzo should at least have one more year of solid production left in him. His value is pretty low since he is 34 and his numbers have been on the decline. This will give me one year to evaluate Olsen's situation.

Carlson and Scheffler are both pass catching TEs who should be in line for increased looks this year. I see both improving on their 2009 Stats and likely to post better numbers than Olsen. Carlson might take a little more to pry away from his owner, but Scheffler was going for peanuts last year.

Any other plans out there?

I agree he's a hold because no one will give you anything of value for him. However, I also think he's never going to be a dominant TE, and his ceiling will be 5-7 hundred yds and 6-8 TDs. That's not bad for a TE, but I'd rather have someone with top 3 upside.

Definite hold. Even Bears fans don't want this guy. It would be funny if he ends up being the Bear's primary receiver. Regardless, it's doubtful Martz will be there next year.

Hold. The Bears will finish in 4th place which will be enough to remove the current regime, including Martz.

have to hold as the vakue has dropped off the table. hope for short wait.

Ok, I think we all agree that Olsen is a Hold or a buy low. I was more intersted in what owners are doing who had him as a TE1.

Who are you looking to get to cover the gap?

I'd be looking to grab Tony G for a year, although there's always a risk he's useless and loses it one of these years.

If you have a team in the "rebulidng" area with Dallas Clark, you could shoot for him.

Owen Daniels is relatively cheap, and seems to be on track to play from game 1 this year.

Shawn Nelson is an upside guy you could grab.

Owned Olsen in one ppr. My strategy was SELL.

Traded Olsen/2011 #1 for VY/2011 #2 .. and drafted heavy on rookies (Hernandez, Graham and Fendi O)... counting on Scheffler to hold the fort down.

I was pleased to get VY for Olsen while only dropping 1-5 places in the 2011 draft

Don't blame people for holding onto Olsen; I just lack the patience.

Daniels, Heath Miller, Gonzo and Scheffler are the guys this Olsen owner is targeting in a few leagues as lower cost starters that can bridge the gap until either Olsen's situation improves or young guys like Cook, Jimmy Graham, Hernandez or the JAC Miller step up.

Just traded him for a 2011 second round pick...owner that took him off my hands was in desperate need for a TE and missed out on any of the worthwhile 2010 class.

I am a TE whore....I can't get enough of these overlooked players on draft day.

Traded for KWII a few years back as my TE1 and drafted Olsen and then Jared Cook....shortly after I dealt Olsen I drafted the new Tony G in KC, Tony Moeaki at 4.09  :pickle:

I'm going to make strong plays for Heath Miller, Zach Miller & Vernon Davis in the RFA auction. I have the RFA rights to Dustin Keller if the owners won't part with them. If I'm stuck with Olsen and Keller, I may just try to play the WDIS game each week or stay glued to the waiver wire for a surprise, but this is one position where the waiver wire usually doesn't pan out in a deep league where everyone has at least 2 TE's.
