Greg olsen (1 Viewer)

What happened to this guy? Basically had a floor of 15 for the beginning of the year, then had the bye week and now he can't even break double digits. Is he slowing down because of age or are the panthers just running their offense different. Really want to start CJ Fiedorwicz over him but don't have anyone better to cover my flex spot.

My guess is that poor OL play leaves him in blocking on more plays than earlier in the year. Stewart has also been healthy since the bye, so they seem to be involving him in the game plan more, resulting in fewer pass attempts on average. Cam seems to be struggling too, which isn't helping.

They also have been winning/keeping games close recently, which may result in fewer garbage time stats for Third Leg Greg.

Even in a struggling offense though, at worst he becomes another TD dependent TE like 90% of your options, but his snap percentage and target share keep his ceiling much higher than most. With juicy match-ups in the playoffs, I'm riding TLG 'til the end.

Saw quite a bit of the game yesterday. For most of it, he was blocking, especially on the run plays and near the goalline. He got involved offensively later on and actually could have ended up with a pretty decent statline if he had pulled in that one on 3rd right near the end. He also dropped a 2pt conversion so could easily have gone into double digits. But without a doubt, he has dropped toward the pack after a strong first 5 or 6 games. Seems like with Gronk being injured most of the time and this dude not being used the same, Walker is probably the best TE to own currently. Mariota uses him a ton.

Just based on the games I've seen him play (most recently vs Oakland this past Sunday) agree that a lot has to do with the Panthers struggling on O. As the team gets behind in both points and in down/distance. Cam seems more apt (or there is simply more need) to take deeper shots downfield to his receivers. Olsen excels in both long seam routes and the underneath stuff -- but with a lot of 2nd/3rd and longs, he's primarily looking for receivers gaining separation downfield for the first down.

Nothing about Olsen that I've seen tells me that he is declining in skill set -- the guy still plays like a beast. Opportunity and usage is just different this year.

He was TE1 in my league going in to this week.  Pretty impressive considering how many meh weeks he's had in a row.

Think it's more a reflection on how poor the position has been this year and also Gronk missing 4 whole games plus most of another. He's been decent, some good games early on, but only one good game out of the last 5 is a bit exasperating. Got to keep playing him and hope for a strong end to the year

He's been sCammed.
Yup. I have fond memories of Anderson targeting him what seemed like 27 times one game earler this year against Bucs. Watching the game yesterday, when Cam got into pass mode, he was forcing it deep to the WR's, Olsen barely got any looks until later. Was frustrating to watch.

Cam seemingly hates him - getting tiresome when he's trying to chuck it 12 times to Ginn instead of getting what Olsen would get him underneath.

I was going to make those exact same first 2 points, though I did want to check on Cam's number of deep targets.  I agree that is what it seems like when  watching the games.

Yep done. Hoping he lights it up on my bench so I can get something this offseason. I am tired of seeing him ranked top 2 every week while my bench TE out scores him

Sorry, I traded Michael Thomas and Blount for him exactly the moment he started sucking
That's gotta hurt.

Hes got Seattle next week so he is  definitely on my bench. From what everyone else has said, I haven't really had the chance to actually see panthers games, I'm probably not starting anymore this year unless he starts getting more targets and it sounds like Cam isn't going to.

For value reference, I am a strong contender this year and the jimmy graham owner is out of the playoffs. I offered Olsen and my 2018 first for jimmy and it was declined. Was actually really surprised it wasn't accepted

It's my fault. As soon as I traded for him he started scoring less fantasy points.  :kicksrock:

Well I just traded him away so maybe he will start playing better for those that still have him

He's still TE1 in my league.
I'm not 100% sure on this but I would imagine thru the first 6 weeks he probably had a 50 point lead as the #1 TE and now he still may be #1 but in my league it's down to a 3 point lead and Reed should easily pass him this week, that's also with Reed missing two games

Ya.  Fact remains.  Certainly, his per game has plummeted in last 5 weeks.  Fwiw, Paulsen at 4for4 has him has TE1 rest of season as of today.

Another terrible game especially considering they were down the whole time so they had to throw. I owned him in 2 leagues and he definitely helped me get into the playoffs but I don't see how anyone would start him now with 4 straight under double digits and 5 of 6 since the bye week.

a little better yesterday and Cam did try to get him one in the end zone.  Two really good match-ups coming up, so I think it will just be time to ride it out.

Him and Reed were a big 1-2 punch for my championship run last year.  I targeted Reed again but skipped Olsen for Kelce.  Had severe regrets in the beginning of the season but I'm glad I did now. He was cams security blanket and deep threat last year-seems like he's a blocker more often than not lately.

It’s likely that Olsen will start practicing this week in hopes of being ready to go for week 12. With absolutely nothing of interest on the WW this week it might not be a bad idea to grab Olsen for the stretch run if you have the space.
