Gronk for Gurley/Gates? (1 Viewer)

Jayded

Footballguy
PPR, points per rush and reception

6 points per all TDs

Roster restrictions to prevent hoarding, so very thin benches

My team:

QB: R. Wilson, M. Stafford

RB: E. Elliott, B. Powell, D. Martin, T. Cohen

WR: J. Nelson, D. Hopkins, T. Hill

TE: Gronk, A. Hooper

Gronk is my biggest chip that I think I can trade (wouldn't get fair offers likely for Jordy or Zeke), but I'd be on the receiving end of the two players here. I reluctantly drafted Gronk, always afraid of him getting injured, but he's a huge advantage when he plays compared to the others' TE scenarios. Right now my RB2 is pretty weak, but do I sit still and keep going with Powell/Martin/Cohen and Gronk, or do I go with Gurley/Hooper?

I wouldn't do the deal.  Gates is on most waiver wires.  I think you have more RB depth than you think.  wait another couple weeks on B. Powell and to see where Cohen's floor settles to..... you also have D. Martin coming back at some point.  Hold Gronk..... he's a league winner when he's healthy.

Would it make a difference to you if I told you I had a W/R/T flex position so I can play 3 RBs at once if I wanted to? Adding Gurley could let me do Zeke/Gurley/ Powell or Cohen with TE options like Hooper, Fleener, or Jesse James at TE. Keeping Gronk means likely playing a WR at flex and becomes something like this I think:

Powell + Gronk + Flex(Hopkins or Cohen)

vs.

Gurley + Hooper/James/Fleexer + Flex (Powell or Hopkins or Cohen)

I don't think it would make a difference for me, although I see the angle clearly that you are looking at.  I guess it also depends on what you are expecting from Gurley.  I think it was encouraging to see his involvement in the passing game especially for a PPR.....but he wasn't very impressive in the running game against a pretty bad Indy team.  I had him pegged in preseason as a bounce back guy to target so it's a situation I'm watching closely to see how it plays out.  ( I have a couple shares of him)  The difference for me is I like Martin sitting there on your bench who I thought looked great in preseason and will be great upon return.  Cohen was awesome in week 1.... could be an outstanding add.  I have shares of Bilal Powell in more leagues than I would like at this point because I really like him as well.  With New England playing New Orleans this week I think I'd wait a week before dangling Gronk out there.  I think New England may terrorize the Saints secondary and Gronk will be a big player - driving his value up even more.

Why not stand pat? You appear to have drafted DMart so that Week 4 you've got instant depth, maybe even a RB2 relegating Powell to a bench or flex role.

This trade would completely defeat the purpose of drafting Gronk in the 2nd round and you'd end up with an old AF Gates and a huge question mark in Gurley.

if I had this roster I'd do nothing until I saw how Doug Muscle Hamster Martin looked. If it seems you still need a RB after that, then entertain trades.

Right now you'd be selling Gronk at his absolute lowest value when the sharks are buying low after what's likely his worst game of the year.

^This.  No reason to sell Gronk low.  Hooper's 88-yard TD was an aberration.  If anything, sell Hooper high for what you need.

Thanks all. I somewhat reluctantly grabbed Gronk in the 3rd round since I was worried about his injury history, but recognize the advantage he brings when healthy. I'm also mad at myself that Gurley slid to the 4th round and I grabbed Hopkins (homer) because we were doing it live and for some reason I didn't realize Gurley was still up there.
