Gumballlisms (1 Viewer)

Earlier, he referred to the stadium as B of A Stadium. I'm curious if Charlotte native refer to it in the same way or if he was just making up names again.

9 carries for Steve Smith today.
And he probably got the wind knocked out ofhim from landing on the ball, despite 4 replays showing Smith land smack on his shoulder. All this after he said smith was grabbing his shoulder, which he wasn't. Got accidentally right there but covered up by erroneously correcting himself.

After the final first down, Gumbel said "this would seem to" end the game or whatever he actually said about 5 times. It would seem to be enough to run out the clock. It would seem to it would seem to it would seem to. He says that more than Maguire talks about feet. He is simply the worst football anouncer ever and for a network based on football, why they got a man that knows nothing about football for their games is beyond me.

I laughed when Collinsworth said "If I can teach you just one thing about football it would be..." Totally slammed Gumbel's lack of football knowledge.

In the Steelers game he said that they were taking FWP to the rest room. :goodposting:
That cracked me up. I was even giving Gumble the benefit of the doubt and said to my wife, "Maybe he said Dressing Room....." to which my wife replied, "Duh! It's a Locker Room..."Perhaps they can put her in the booth.

I seriously thought Collingsworth has done an incredible job this year holding his tounge. This evening you could tell that he was just trying to ignore Gumble when he'd interrupt him with stupid questions.... then he started giving very short answers:G: So doesn't it bother you that a non-starter (Barber) is going to the Pro Bowl?C: Not a bitG: So who would you keep at the end of the season with both being free agents; Julius Jones or Marion Barber?C: BarberG: No discussion?C: No question about it......At the end of the night when Collingsworth gave his "teach you one thing about football" slap I nearly lost it. A classy way to deliver a shot against someone who he's had to prop up all season. Kudos to CC.

Sometime in the first half, he should have said "Patrick Crayton with the catch." and instead said:

"Payton Cratick, I'm mean Patrick Crayton, with the catch."

I vote for Ace Ventura as Collingsworth's next co-announcer.

I never liked Collinsworth in the past. But, I have to say, the fact that he's had to do all the heavy lifting for his pathetic partner has bumped him up quite a bit in my opinion of him. He's been more than serviceable--he's actually been quite good as a color announcer.

I agree. The initial reaction to the guy may be negative because he's a little geeky, but he brings credibility with his commentary on game action. He needs to go to the bigs (bye bye cornheiser).

Wondering if anyone else heard this one last night......

After the Panthers punted, the Cowboys came up to the ball on first down and Gumbel said "And now Chicago is on the move". :)

I dont claim to be an expert on football or broadcasting, but I am serious when I say this. Put me in the booth and I can give you 10x the commentary that this trainwreck can. How in the hell does this guy have a job?????

This reminds me of a Beavis and Butthead episode years ago when they were making fun of Gumbel on a talk show. 10 years later and it still holds true.

It's very clear to me that announcers, broadcasters, sideline reporters etc.. need to be tested. I mean if they're going to test players for banned substances they need to test these guys for crack.

This is utterly ridiculas!

My best Gumbalism that he must say 3-5 times per game -- "Check that".

As in "Deangelo Williams with the carry; check that, DeShaun Foster" or "Patrick Crayton the intended target; check that, Sam Hurd".

Last week I actually saved shoveling the driveway until 8:30 so I could listen to the broadcast on my headphones. Get to hear "oh my" with **** Emberg, but better than Gumbal.

We'll get to see.....We'll get to see.....We'll get to see....We'll get to see.....
And it wasn't even "We get to see Tony Romo/T.O./Marion Barber/Steve Smith/[insert Pro Bowl talent here] come on to the field."It was:"We get to see the Carolina offense go to work" (Yippee!)"We get to see Matt Moore come onto the field." (Uh, great...)"We get to see Mat McBriar" ("Hey honey, get in here! The Dallas PUNTER is coming out!")

He is horrible, but in a strange way I'm getting used to him. Collinsworth holds it together well.

I did chuckle when he talked about a missed INT almost being "7 the other way".

Same here. I like Collingsworth. He knows what he's talking about and he pulls no punches. And I actually laughed when they did the skit a week or so ago with Bettis surprising a local Pittsburgh bar and getting mobbed by fans, then repeated it with Collingsworth sitting by himself having a drink at a local bar with nobody paying attention to him.

My brother asked me today if we got the "weird" feed for the game last night (we're in Canada, where the NFLN games are played on a Canadian national network).

For some reason, the entire broadcast was sans commercials- there was instead a wide shot of the stadium, while the crew discussed what they'd talk about during the next series, etc.

Gumbel's contribution? "That was a great hot dog. I really like pork."

not very professional for an announcer to make a lot of silly mistakes ... it's even worse when he corrects said mistakes with "my bad". Once a game is forgivable, but Gumby is averaging 3 "my bad's" a game.

unless NFLN wants it's only watched program to continue to be a laughing stock, they'll can Gumby and bring in anyone else. It's got to be a forgone conclusion that Gumball is out for next year. Im looking forward to how its going to be announced ... probably Gumby choosing not to renew his contract when in fact there will probably be no offer from the network, but it allows Gumby to ride off into the sunset with some shread of dignity.

How about when FWP came back to the sidelines on crutches, Gumby announced that FWP has a broken ankle and "may be done for the season". I know GUmby hates being definitiive but this is one time that there was no doubt .... and he still couldn't call it right.

He also referred to Tony Romo as Tony Romeo ... yeah, one might think he was trying to be funny about the whole Jessica Simpson thing, but he didn't follow up w/ anything after the comment, he didn't say it jokingly, and neither Marshall not Deon laughed or said anything about the Tony Romeo comment. If it was a joke, it was badly done because it sounded like another one of his bonehead screwups

1) This thread is hard to search for. One more L than I'd thought necessary.

2) While occasionally really petty, this thread was pretty funny last week. I'm sure there'll be some good stuff to add tonight.

This is how Gumbel himself mispells the word.

I guess he doesn't watch the referees for their signals either. The ref said no catch after that side line throw (He initially started to say it was a catch) but it was still a 2-3 second delay, then Gumbel says its a catch.

i dont know if you caught when he said, "this is a football game" at the end. It was so funny the way he ssiad it with no clear point. i think the guy is funny with all his mistakes and just plain pointless statements. thanks Gumball!

Gumble (and Collingsworth) said the game was OVER with >4:30 left and the Pats up by 10.

I almost jumped through the TV screen to choke them for such a blatent keerock.
