Gurden to Dexter Jackson "get ready to play" (1 Viewer)

from Rotoworld,

Bucs coach Jon Gruden reportedly left a note on Dexter Jackson's locker telling the second-round pick to "be ready" to play offense in Week 3.

Jackson will play off the bench behind Antonio Bryant and could add another dimension to the offense working in the slot. The Appalachian State product is explosive, but very small. He's only returned kicks to this point.

any thoughts? Bucs have nobody else, so why not.....

Why not?You made me think twice. Does TB have wide receivers?

exactly my point....they do not have one playmaker on offense, maybe he will shine.

has alot to do w/ more than who he QB is too....

It's a good call out and thanks for putting Jackson on my radar. This is a good year for rookie WRs so far.If he starts getting targets and stats, it's always good to be ahead of the crowd.... and deeper leagues should pay even more attention.

The Bucs will actually have to throw the ball past the line of scrimmage in order for their WRs to have nfl success and ff value

<bucs homer>

QB aside, what are the chances that 3 rookie WRs, all under 5'11 have a big impact in the same year? Unless its just the year of the little WR and they all do well.

Being completely serious, there was an emphasis made by the refs toward calling more downfield contact starting last season. They have become much stricter on all of the DB contact, making it much easier for a smaller WR to get around and do some damage. The new wave of smaller WR's will fare much better under the way the league is officiated now than in prior years. That said, I don't think Jackson will be worth much anytime soon. Maybe in three years or so.

In Hyper Active 1, I drafted two WR's in the rookie/FA draft this year. Royal and Jackson. I wish it was Royal and DeSean Jackson, but it was Royal and Dexter Jackson. I believe I hit a HR with Royal, and I think, considering who is/was playing in front of Jackson in TB he has a real chance of making an impact this year and beyond....

Seriously, did everyone think that Galloway and Hilliard were going to play 16 games at the ages of 54 and 57, respectively?

No, but Jackson is also listed behind Antonio Bryant and Michael Clayton on the depth chart. I know that's not saying a lot, but it's a lot of hands competing for attention.

Here's the context I read this in earlier this week, in an article about Michael Clayton's chances of all things:

The leading receiver still is 32-year-old Ike Hilliard. Although relegated to third-down duty, Hilliard has 10 catches for 86 yards and a touchdown.

"He's been a part of two division title teams here, and for some reason, people don't think he's as good as I guess maybe I do," Gruden said of Hilliard. "But Ike catches it, he gets open, he can play any position, he's a good blocker, he's a good football player. … Maurice Stovall wants to play. And Antonio Bryant is a good player. I'm just promising Bucs fans, this guy is a talented guy that has a real chance. We've got to rally around our guys, and we'll try to get Dexter (Jackson) in there a time or two."

Jackson, a second-round pick from Appalachian State used as a returner so far, has Galloway-like speed to stretch the field. On Wednesday, he received word that he could have some plays on offense against the Bears.

"Coach Gruden had a little note telling me to be ready to play this weekend," Jackson said.

One guy wasn't even in the league last year and Clayton has been beyond horrible since that season. The point is the kid is going to get the opportunity. If he has anything that resembles talent he's going to see the field....Admittedly he could very fall flat on his face, but when I took him I looked at who of that pile of WR's drafted in the 2nd in the NFL draft I figure it's a crap shoot between most of them so I went with a guy that had better chance to get on the field than the others that were available...

I heard that the Post-it fell off before Jackson could see it. You know how those things lose their stickiness. Word is Gruden will be using thumbtacks from now on.
