Suspect shot after threatening to blow up Baltimore news station FOX45
BALTIMORE - The building housing Baltimore's Fox and CW affiliates was evacuated Thursday afternoon for a suspicious person.
Officialss say threatened to set off a bomb at the headquarters of Fox 45 Baltimore Thursday afternoon, forcing authorities to evacuate the building, walked outside before a sniper shot him.
Police said the suspect, a white man in his 20s, was still alive but refused to cooperate with officers. They did not confirm whether he held an actual bomb, but said he had wires inside his jacket.
The man wore a white panda suit, a surgical mask and sunglasses. He apparently lit a car on fire in the parking lot before entering the building, Fox 45 reports.
Officers deployed a bomb robot to the scene after the shots rang out.
According to FOX45’s website, all staff are out of the building. FOX45 plans to run a newscast this evening, News Director Mike Tomko said.
"Someone came into the front of the building and they apparently said that they had some information they wanted to get on the air," Tomko told reporters. "I came down at one point not knowing the person was in the lobby, near the vestibule area. He talked to me and was wearing what appears to be a full body white panda suit, surgical mask and sunglasses. He had a flash drive, said he had information he wanted to get on the air. He compared it to the information found in the Panama Papers. I told him, 'I can't let you in, you're going to have to leave the flash drive here and slide it through the opening.' He wouldn't do that. Apparently he had made some threats before."
According to Tomko, another threat was made earlier in the day to another employee, though specifics of that threat are unknown at this time.
