Yeah, I'm talking about the Rage Against The Machine/Run The Jewels tour.

What to do with the merchandise that'll be selling at extraordinary prices and albums, reissues, etc. that will go along with it?

We know Mike Renner gets a pass because of "black capitalism" and all, but what about the rest of the fellas in the bands?

Thanks. If nothing else you saved us from a 15 paragraph and 10 question post on the same subject by Gordon Gekko.

Yes, but their alternative histories of America have now influenced two generations of Americans, Gen X and Gen Z. When people use infotainment to seduce the masses into taking a Marxist view of history without any positives, it has a ripple effect on the members of those generations.

It's not an accident they're touring together. They have the same kind of political conversion agenda that Jello Biafra did. "Bored white kids," Biafra said of his audience, who was looking to indoctrinate them into leftist history and leftist thinking.

It's music. Stop clutching your pearls.

Are you so afraid of these ideas that you can't abide a band espousing them?

I've listened to Rage Against the Machine plenty and it has had zero "influence" on me. Much like I've listened to Ave Maria plenty and it hasn't made me want to go to church.

When the band are complete hypocrites with a new worth combined of 120 million dollars total, then yes, I can't abide it. I'm not the Dude. Run The Jewels is generally fine with me and I have their records and merch because they didn't start with the preconception that there was a machine to be raged against. But Rage is a different animal making tons of money off a system that they purport to want to tear down.

Yeah but RATM’s music is so good I don’t care.  It’s kinda like a Ben & Jerry’s half baked ice cream.  I know it’s not good for me but damn does it taste great.

I was a big Crass fan back in the day. Remember them? Full on Communist anarchists.

And then there was the Dead Kennedys…

It’s a great marketing gimmick.

What's the suggestion here? We need to silence their voices?

This feels like it's from the same vein of Marilyn Manson caused Columbine.

Not a ROTM fan, but I listen to all sort of music by artists who openly espouse values that I don't share (e.g. Public Enemy).  No big deal -- I don't take any of these folks that seriously.

I dont think there’s a suggestion or even saying the music is bad, I think rock is just pointing out the hypocrisy.  Not much to do other than laugh at it imo

Gotcha. It feels like identifying hypocritical behavior in humans isn't anything particularly shocking, especially if they're profiting off such hypocrisy. They also rap against the police and military that protect them, but Rock isn't as sensitive to those topics, so the question is why does this get under his skin.

I hear ya, but I’m not sure we have a shocking topic on the first page of this forum…what is shocking any longer.  God knows we don’t need another guns or abortion thread 🤣

If the only point is of this thread is to spotlight hypocrisy, then I withdraw my pearl clutching comment.

If all we did here was spotlight hypocrisy, none of us would have time to do anything else, we live in very hypocritical times IMO

FWIW, when the tour was originally announced in 2020, they said that they would be donating all of the profits to charity.  I don't know if that's definitely the case anymore, though the did donate a bunch to a pro-choice organization.

Is there an irony to what they are doing?  Sure.  I don't think that it is really a marketing gimmick, per se, though and I suspect that they have some awareness of the inherent hypocrisy.  I'm also not sure whether the net worth figures are really true.  Anything found online is based in pure speculation.

So I get the adverse sentiment to the spectacle, but I don't see the underlying reality to be nearly as pernicious.

If anyone has anything approaching any kind of research on how much those guys are worth, I'm listening. All links to CelebNetWorth.com appreciated.

Zach De La Roche bought a $900,000 home in the LA area, I dunno if I buy that he's worth 25 mill.

Like AOC and her tax the rich shirts. 🙄

I love RATM by the way, but I take no musicians or athletes, celebrities etc opinions on most anything seriously. Except in their field of expertise.

I like ROTM musically.  Saw em in concert back in the late 90's, and it was epic.....but as I've gotten older, the anti-establishment just got to be too much...... I have no idea if they are influencing younger people to become militant.....wouldn't surprise me though....we live in really stupid times.

No, Soviet imagery isn't cool but neither is wearing apparel with a picture of Che Guevera. However, I am not outraged when I see people wearing this stuff, as I don't know for sure their motive...maybe they just like the designs and colors and are not making a political statement per se (quite often I just assume they haven't put much thought into this or are just ignorant of the history of the imagery or person).

Not sure I get the AOC comment. Isn’t she one of the least wealthy members of Congress? She’s a far cry from a stadium filling rock star.

Tom Morello major in social studies and graduated with honors from Harvard. Not saying that means you should buy into his opinions but he’s quite intelligent and educated.

Which may not necessarily be hypocritical. For instance, FDR was wealthy (born into a patrician family) but oversaw legislation that taxed the rich at the highest rates we have ever seen in this country.

I like RATM's music but I also like to laugh and make fun of the fact that they take their horrible political stances so seriously.

AOC took a "comped ticket" to the Met Gala. Worth 35K. Was given a "comped" seat at a featured table, that costs an additional 300K. She was "loaned" a dress by Aurora James, who does dresses for celebrities, that said "Tax The Rich"  James is known for not paying her taxes and has been accused of essentially running sweat shops to drag down her own labor costs.

AOC violated FEC regulations. The optics were pretty horrible, as AOC and other celebrities were maskless, despite a mask mandate then, but all the employees working the event were forced to wear masks. When AOC did her entrance, a masked employee had to carry the back end of her dress train because it was too long and would drag on the ground. During photo ops, masked employees were forced to line up behind AOC and other non masked celebrities as they took group photos.

Big Social Media essentially killed the story, in so much as they could through their platforms. AOC spends the most on social media advertising for any elected official in America, barring candidates for POTUS during their election run. Period. Prager University spends the most on social media advertising out of any Conservative outlet in the country, and like AOC, they have virtually immunity on those platforms. When AOC lied about J6 and hiding in Katie Porter's office, Big Social Media basically killed that story too. Following that, when Porter gave AOC a cover story, then Porter's unpaid media coverage got a dramatic boost in the months that followed.

Riley Roberts is AOC's fiance and formerly long term boyfriend. He's a 'dark money pump'  much in the vein of how Ilhan Omar's husband is used to funnel money back into her own pockets.  If someone wants to buy time into AOC's platform, they push the money to Roberts, which is not much different than the money funneled to Hunter Biden for "The Big Guy"  Same for Paul Pelosi, Nancy Pelosi's son.

Since you've made a big public "To Do" about having me on your Ignore List, then you won't read any of this. Too bad, you might have actually learned something. This was a better response than you actually deserved.

Dead Kennedys would be on my Mt Rushmore of Cali punk, so Biafra gets a pass. The rage behind the art has to come from somewhere.

I don't like any super political bands, I like my rock stars more on the Liam Gallagher tip.

But I freaking love Rage. I cannot be the only guy on these boards that has many memories of going bonkers to these guys in the 90's.

I also have memories of my old roommate in Vegas who loved RATM, but would listen to them when driving and I thought he was gonna go all Grand Theft Auto on someone.

But mostly good memories

You say all of this as if you think we absolve her and anyone of breaking rules/laws because she or they are liberals or Democrats or on 'our' side. No, if she or anyone is guilty of breaking the rules/laws then charge them. ALL OF THEM. I would hope most would want everyone held accountable for bad actions. I'm tired of the 'teams' arguments, the blame the other side argument, the bof sidez argument.

You like to point all the perceived flaws and nefarious deeds of the Dems/left but I have yet to see you call out the right/Republicans in one of your manifestos. It's good to hold politicians to task but that should include ALL politicians.

What I tell people, and I've said this before, if leftists here want to start a top level thread of their own, act in good faith, actually invest in provoking thought, high level discussion and diversity of opinion and then ping me to participate, I'd be happy to invest in that thread as well under those conditions. Even if the topic is patently negative to the general viewpoint of Conservatives and/or Republicans.

When I say, "good faith", I exclude those looking to get me permanently banned, those who gas light me, those who sealion me, those who use ad hominem against me, those who use logical fallacy bombing against me, those who aliases against me and on and on and on regarding clear bad faith actors.

I have yet to find a leftist here to take me up on that offer. Show me effort to create diversity of thought for the greater good of this community and I'll reward that.

I extend that same offer to you now.

If you speak up, you should step up. Otherwise a lack of action makes it clear this is just another purity test. Your move now.

I agreed with you that anyone breaking rules/laws should be held accountable even Dems/liberals/leftists and asked you to hold the Republicans/conservatives/righties to the same standard. But you do you. If you can't even acknowledge that everyone should be held to the same scrutiny and standards, then you can keep hiding behind your rhetoric.
