Hall/Conner Owner here, who do I handcuff and who to drop? (1 Viewer)

Last night I completed my first draft of the season. Redraft, 12 team, 0.5 PPR, QB - 2 RB - 2 WR - 1 TE - RB/WR/TE. I picked 4th.
  • Love
  • Hall, Pacheco, Conner, Brooks, McLaughlin, Benson
  • Olave, Cooper, McLaurin, Watson
  • Bowers, Hockenson
I drafted Benson to be Conner's handcuff. However Braelon Allen is still available to properly handcuff Hall too. Should I drop someone such as McLaughlin for Allen? I also noticed Wright was not drafted either (Small bench). Should I take a bigger swing and pick him up over Allen?

What are your thoughts?

This is always a tough call with short benches. There will be good backup RBs on waivers. You have 3 starting RBs in Hall, Conner and Pacheco so if one goes down you still have another to start. If Conner goes down you have Benson. Later in the season you could eventually have Brooks to start here. I like your RB choices and feel if Hall got injured you are still OK and wouldn't be the end if you missed out on Allen.

I'm ok with keeping McLaughin at this point as I think he could get touches right out of the gates. The tricky part with him is knowing when/if to start him. You might want to see what happens early in the season and decide if he's worth keeping or moving to pick up Allen. I'm a fan of McLaughin but he could be frustrating with his workload week to week. See what happens once the games start. He's probably my first cut if something better comes up on waivers.

The other thing is if you pick up Allen you now are rostering 2 cuffs and you feel like you can't drop them to pick up a hot waiver wire addition. Now 2 bench spots are locked up.

I know some people love the piece of mind having their bellcow RBs with their cuffs in case something happens. Really depends what helps you sleep at night. Ha.

Overall nice draft. I assume Hock goes into an IR spot? Once he comes off he could be great trade bait (solo or in a package deal) if Bowers is producing. If Bowers isn't good then Hock slides into your starting roster.

I agree with most of this. Essentially if the benches are small enough and you can find replacements as the season goes you want to try and play the game each week and be ahead of the injury curve with a couple bench spots. Realistically nobody will be trying to handcuff everyone on their roster because you don't have space. Because of this I would rather have a guy like McLaughin that seems to have potential stand alone value at this juncture so I would keep him.

At this point I would probably take a swing with Wright over Benson or as an IR replacement if you can stash Hock or Brooks on IR. Early in the season I would want to have guys that may have a shot at a standalone value and then see what happens week 1 or 2 and then adjust.

Do not worry about Hall’s handcuff or anyone’s really. With such a small bench just pick up the best players. There will always be players to grab in your league. There is no reason to have players that sit on the bench until injuries happen. You technically picked Benson as Conners replacement not his handcuff so I’m ok with that one. Allen is not replacing Hall.

Heck I’d drop some of you RB depth for more WRs (Mclaughlin) You will start Hall and Pacheco every week feeling good. Conner/Benson could flex or be a great #3.
