The Pioneer Press wrote today that Harvin's injury appears to be very serious. My guess is Harvin doesn't play this week and then the Vikings hope he'll be better after the Week 4 bye. Of course, they know full well how bad a hip injury can be considering Rice is still out with one he suffered last season so who knows when Harvin will be healthy again.

If Harvin sits this week they need someone to play WR since they're down to only Berrian, Camarillo and Lewis. Baskett probably can pick things up relatively quickly and be useful in certain plays if need be.

He's also 6'4" which supplies the Vikings with their "tall" receiver.

I edited my post. Baskett never played for Childress in Philadelphia. He got there in 2006 which is right after Childress left.

 The Vikings signed Baskett as a UDFA in 2006 and then dealt him to the Eagles in the preseason for Eagles WR Billy McMullen, I think. Anyway, welcome home, Hank! We hardly knew ya. No really...we hardly knew you. :P

Yes, and Baskett became a starter for the Eagles (started 5 games in 2006, 6 in 2008) and had some highlight plays. Many Viking fans were critical of team management for trading away Baskett for McMullen, who never did anything for the Vikings.http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/...k-hank-baskett/

How bizarro would it be if the Pats traded Moss back to the Vikings? Favre all but got down and begged for the Packers to sign him before . . .

More like how awesome would that be!?I expect it's just a matter of time that Kendra releases pics. Yes, the crocs will be visible.

Tom Pelissero agrees with my belief that this signing is more a reflection about Harvin's uncertain status than a reaction to whatever may be happening with the VJax trade talks:

The move presumably is a reaction to the uncertain status of Percy Harvin, who aggravated a hip injury in Sunday's loss to Miami. The Vikings have been carrying only four receivers on the 53-man roster; the emergency option last week if Harvin hadn't played was to elevate Logan Payne from the practice squad.

Baskett's experience in Eagles coach Andy Reid's version of the West Coast offense could help him be ready for at least limited action on Sunday against Detroit. He's the latest in a line of former Eagles skill-position players who have ended up in Minnesota.

The signing has little or no bearing on the Vikings' pursuit of Jackson, whose substance-abuse suspension would make him unavailable until their fifth game -- or their seventh game if a deal isn't completed by 3 p.m. Wednesday.
