Unga "ran afoul of the honor code instituted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints," presumably for sleeping with his girlfriend, also a BYU athlete who has been denied readmission into the school. So it looks like Unga will declare for the supplemental draft.

He's an intriguing prospect. He might just be a fullback, but he was a multi-dimensional power back at BYU, averaging over 1,100 rushing yards and 11 TDs in his three seasons as a starter; he also caught 86 passes combined in '07 and '08. He was probably expected to be a 5th round pick in the 2011 draft (and expected to run the 40 in the 4.6 range), but at 6'0, 237, he has the size to be a force in the NFL. Nose for the end zone, good hands, decent speed/agility.... someone to at least keep an eye on. Wouldn't be surprised to see a team use a 3rd or a 4th in the supplemental draft on him.

I recall a recent article about Cincy being on the lookout for a power back. Wonder if they bite? Of course, the fact that he was kicked off his collegiate team has to be attractive to them as well. :lmao:

It is interesting because many of the Supplemental guys are guys with disciplinary and/or academic issues. If he just had sex or even got caught drinking, I would think that NFL management wouldn't bat an eye in regards to him being a "trouble maker". On top of that, there are always a couple of teams that miss out in the draft in regards to what they are looking for and I can see a couple of teams being interested in paying that 3/4 round pick as you mentioned.

It's almost certainly sex or drinking, or maybe wearing a tank top or having a beard.

Kicked off the team for getting some stank on his hang-low? With his girlfriend no less. Wow.

Between the required mission following graduation and sex being prohibited, how do they get these guys to commit to their school? They are taking all the fun out of being an athlete in college.

1. the mission is not required2. I think you'd be surprised at the number of guys (even non-Mormons) who wouldn't object to prohibitions on alcohol and sex at college.

I'm sure I would be.Just seems completely foreign to me to pay so much money to attend a school with so many personal rules. Pretty stone age.

Actually, the thing is he admitted it. I'm sure minor "infractions" like that are don't ask/don't tell. Accusations would be hard to prove. But he and his gf felt enough guilt about it, that they came forward. And they were punished. It is bizarre to think that Jim McMahon went to BYU, considering what is banned.

Alchohol ban, a lot more than you would guess wouldn't oppose. Sex ban? Way less than those in the alchohol category.

How many wouldn't object to prohibitions of coffee and rated - R movies? I don't think we should pretend that their code of conduct isn't pretty crazy to those outside of their religious beliefs. The mormon on MTV's Real Life got kicked out for having a boy on her bed. She didn't kiss him, sleep with him...nothing.

No chance in the NFL.

Never seen him play but his name is 'Harvey Unga'. Just don't see how it could work out for him.

Not impressed at all with his skills. Slow, with stiff hips. I would be surprised if he is taken in the supplemental draft.

BYU is one of the truly great values for your money as a private college. A fulltime student will spend around $6000 a year for tuition for a very highly ranked academic environment. The Mormon church picks up most of the students real costs. While as I was raised a Mormon, and unlike most I still enjoy a drink a lot of the time. So the BYU experience wasn't for me. But everyone I knew loved their time there, even the ones who made Jim McMahon look like a choir boy. I knew a lot of different football and baseball players at BYU, both as friends and competitors when we played against each other. People generally have a very wrong picture about what it is like in Utah, with Mormons or at BYU. It's not that different after all these years when I'm back in Utah or living in Colorado or traveling around the US or other countries, it all seems pretty much the same to me.
