Has anyone traveled to an NFL game in London? (1 Viewer)

Thinking about making the trip this year but I'm curious to see what the experience is like for actual fans of one of the teams attending the game in another country.

Yes, but from my home in London... does that still count?!

Don't expect a home/away type atmosphere. You'll be able to see all 32 team jerseys in the stadium.

Prepare for about 50% of the people to be diehard fans and 50% of the people to have no idea what's going on. And for the first 50% to be patiently trying to explain the rules to the second 50%.

Although one team is the designated "home" team, that team won't get more support or cheers. the main difference is they put flags on each seat for the home team for people to wave. Which no-one really does!

So it's very much a neutral venue. Wembley is a great place to see live sport though, as it's built for soccer the seats start close to the field.

No doubt.  There's no team that has an advantage with the fans.

It's funny, and kind of endearing, seeing how British fans rock whatever NFL gear they have to the games.  I remember seeing a guy with a Bengals scarf and Redskins hat on.  Neither team was playing.

If you go, I would say:

  • Do AirBnB.  Decent hotels are expensive.  Get a little flat in Notting Hill or Paddington, somewhere central.
  • There's a hotel right outside the stadium, has an upstairs bar which is great for before and after the game.  Was not busy when I was there, surprisingly.
  • Download CityMapper when you there.  Best app for getting you around the city.  Their subway (tube) is awesome.
