Hawaii....help me (3 Viewers)

FWIW - For Pearl Harbor, I believe you still need to make an advance reservation online to take the brief boat trip out to the Arizona memorial. Check out the Pearl Harbor web site  for details and current timing of when reservations are released.

Also, I as of Jan 8,  Maui now requires booster  (if vax more than 6 months prior) to go into restaurants. Other counties may implement this also shortly.
Ironically, the covid health questionaire  is no longer required  to visit any of the islands. But you still need to upload your vax record.

We are planning to return and visit Maui/Big Island in mid April.
The booster requirement was delayed a few weeks. Check requirements regularly as they may change.

Heads up that all of Hawaii (not just Maui) is going to begin requiring a booster to be considered fully vaccinated for avoidance of the quarantine requirements.

oak->Maui

Airport was not bad at all.  They checked vax info at the gate and gave us wristband. Had to keep it on at the airports on both sides.

we have been seeing whales breach from the balcony.   Watching the games from the beach bar 🍹🌴🤿🐠

Pretty mellow trip so far.

watched games at bar on sunday

monday: the girls hung around the place: snorkeled, boogie boarded. Mrs and I drove up to hanalua bay to snorkel. Very sad.  It was not very vibrant, not many fish. Used to be a favorite spot.

today: snorkeling trip to lanai. Saw a tremendous amount of whales, and several pods of different species of dolphin (some when we were in the water). Fantastic day

food: hula grill👍👍
leilanis👍👍
tommy Bahama (marlin grill, not the one down south). good but what you would expect

edit: mrs had a very good poke salad at Tommy’s

maui tacos👍
star noodle for a late lunch right now👍👍

lahaina fish co. 👍 fine but better pacific seafood elsewhere

I really enjoyed the Paia Fish Market.  Their Opah burger was awesome. Try it if you get a chance.

Will be in Maui next week.  Mala booked for breakfast before the Super Bowl on Sunday.  Going to try Sale Pepe for Valentines dinner.  Looking forward to seeing my whale friends again…

Heading to the big island in June.  Staying near Ha'ena Beach.  We will be with the kids, 15 and 9.  Enjoy outdoor activities, hiking, etc.  Have 10 days, haven't really planned out our itinerary yet, any must do's?  Anything that might need a reservation?

Restaurant reservations. We are going to be in Maui and Big Island next month. On Big Island, we are going to do snorkel with manta rays. We think a visit to Volcano nat'l park. We are into coffee so definitely hitting several coffee farms but your kids probably not interested.Mauna Kea summit, zip line (over Kolekole falls?). Green flash!

Heading to Maui in May. What is the rental car situation? Is anyone finding cheaper rates away from the airport? Any help is appreciated

Just got back from Maui.  Whale season in full effect - stayed at Sheraton Black Rock and they were right outside our window/balcony.  Most places didn’t check vax cards, just make sure you are doing the Safe Travels website verification.  Wonderful time…

In Hilo or somewhere else?

From what I remember of Hilo, reservations for most restaurants aren’t needed.
Yea, not really thinking restaurants.  More along the lines of activities that might need booked in advance.  We usually hit a brew pub at the end of the day for dinner.

There’s a seahorse farm in Kona that’s pretty awesome. It requires reservations way in advance, but it’s worth it. I realize it’s a drive too from the east side of the island. Other than Volcanoes NP, there’s just a lot of beaches on that side of the island iirc.

We made reservations about 3 months ago for Maui and Big Island. We were able to get std suv for $350/week each island. Had a promo this week for 30% off and rate came to $760. Turbo is an app I know some are using. It is like Airbnb where rental is from private parties. But some businesses near airport don't like it because people are dropping off the cars near airport.

$350/Wk for an SUV?  Was this on Turo?

Had a great time about 10 days ago.  Whale watching tour was incredible off Maui.   Four came right up to the boat at the end.   Got some incredible pictures
Awesome.  Can we still do this in June or is whale season over?  Also are there options or where do I book?

One of the great things. Poolside or walking along the ocean and whales are jumping swimming by all day.

PSA: this may be a Honda but for those travelling in near future, you can avoid the quarantine by uploading vax card ( also need to answer quick questionnaire 24 hrs prior to departure), or negative Covid test results. You get a QR code that is screened when you arrive. Many airlines are doing prescreening of QR code prior to departure to Hawaii. You then avoid the screening at Hawaii airport on arrival. We just got this done in Phoenix with American.

Upload vax card for quarantine exemption

ETA 11/28-if you have your pre-screening wristband in advance, you just walk right thru to baggage claim, otherwise you have to wait in line to do the screening just outside baggage claim.

Thank you for this.  I guess nothing is required going forward (effective 3/26) per the Safe Travels Hawaii website.

NOTICE: Hawai‘i Safe Travels restrictions ended on 03/25/2022 at 11:59 p.m. HST. Beginning at 12:00 a.m. HST, 03/26/2022, there will be no COVID-related requirements for arriving domestic passengers. Travelers arriving in Hawai‘i directly from international airports must still comply with U.S. federal requirements; consult with your airline.

Thank you to all of the travelers** who participated in the Safe Travels Hawai‘i program for the past two years. If you have a domestic trip to Hawai‘i from March 26, 2022, and beyond, there are no arrival or entry requirements. The Safe Travels platform will no longer be utilized.
