Hawaii....help me (1 Viewer)

Heading to Kauai (Poipu Beach)most of November.
Heading to Kauai (Poipu Beach) most of November.
I stayed at the Koloa Landing resort in Poipu a couple of years ago. Beautiful area.
yes our favorite breakfast spot! (Holohologril-
Banana Macadamia Nut Pancakes | coconut syrup)!

There are several nice locations in Poipu. We usually stay at Poipu Shores. (If you search unit numbers you can find private rental listing and avoid ARBNB fees). Has a pool hanging on a cliff over the ocean. The ultimate stay is The Grand Hyatt Poipu which we stayed at once a couple years ago and this year will be using Resort Pass reservations to spend the day at the resort. Any one going to Poipu needs to find the turtles at dusk. Don't believe the listings that say a/c is not necessary!

Princeville on the north side of Kauai is beautiful and also a popular location.

4 trips to Maui and loved them all... no idea what things are like now after the fires.
Four Seasons, Grand Waliea, Hyatt Regency and then a condo.

If have a big group or family the condo is great as you can gather together like family, BBQ, etc. All three hotels were great.

I haven't been to any other islands but Maui feels like the goldilocks... not too big and not too small. Not over crowded but also civilization. Plenty of options for stuff to do.

Heading to the Big Island first week of October for a family trip. Bringing the kids, grandkids, parents. Multiple condos in Waikoloa. Looking forward to it
Good chance to see some activity at Haleakala. Its been very active this year with fountains several feet in the air. Seems to be on in cycles of a few weeks. Today's update from USGS Reports:
"Episode 33 lava fountaining ended on Friday, September 19. Glow from the vents was observed overnight. The summit is reinflating, and models indicate that episode 34 is likely to start between September 28 and October 1."

We were on Big Island three years ago. https://lavalavabeachclub.com/bigisland/ is great place for meals/beverages. Nice beach there too.
Enjoy!

Those are some very nice resorts in Wailea!!! Lots of sun too. We were never fortunate to stay there. Always stayed in Kaanapali. There's so many micro climates on the islands but usually sunny in Wailea. We love Hawaii and would move there but our grandkids are a big part of our life right now. Maybe in about 5 years.

The condo we stayed in was Kaanapali. Loved it. It is hard to imagine a bad time on Maui.

Internet service on flights between mainland and Hawaii as been sparse to non existant. This is changing now...

I always get it on Alaska
free and fast!
I don't think it's free unless you have T-Mobile or status with Alaska. I may be wrong

I flew it in February and they didn't charge me anything. Maybe that has changed though but I don't have T-mobile nor status. Actually, I booked on Alaska but it was a hawaiian airlines plane  as they are one in the same now

Looks like our trip to Kauai will be delayed. Condo host called and said they were doing some maintenace construction on the condo and found some significant issues with the structure. Building now closed until late Nov. We booked in January. Still looking for a comparable unit in Poipu area but doubt we will find a 19 day slot. Probably will reschedule for March.

After giving up hope to salvage our Nov trip to Kauai, I was able to piece together two great condo units for Nov. Cost is about 20% less. Found Makahuena bldg 3 for 12 days and bldg 5 for 4 days. Only a few days short of our original plan. Was able to modify our flight on American (using award miles) with no addt'l miles required. We like being oceanfront with some good wave action on the lava rock coast and these two buildings are great. With a little luck we should see some whales, the dolphins make a daily pass in the mornings and turtles are in the cove immediately below our balcony. We also have some friends joining us for a week. They have a few family issues and we told them if they can get there, the "rent" is free because we are going whether they come or not. Aloha!

On the Big Island now. Spectacular. Only thing that won’t be spectacular is getting to the airport with main roads closed for the Iron Man on Saturday
Did you play any golf?
Yes 2 rounds at Waikoloa Beach resort. Our condo was on the course so super easy. They have 3 nines so mixed it up. Great range. It’s not Mauna Lani but we played for $73 instead of $300

Since getting back from Hawaii last month, I would like to announce that I have finally perfected my recipe for Spam Musubi. It is *chef’s kiss*
This needs to be an instagram post with video and “don’t fear the pooper” background music.

Ha! Got lesson from my two local cousins and made just a couple small tweaks. It is absolute perfection!!

Got a trip planned next year. Staying north of there and will check this out for a cheaper day for sure.

Enjoy the trip!
