Help me identify this song from the 70s (1 Viewer)

You should be a fellow yacht rock expert. I think we're being trolled then. Because Loving You by Minnie isn't even yacht rock.
Not trolling.

It’s definitely not the Boxer.  I know all the main hits.  I’m a yacht rocky guy myself—I usually listen to The Bridge on SiriusXM in the car.  Probably where I recently heard it.

It’s not a deep cut by any means.  It’s a song I’ve probably heard hundreds of times in my life.

That reminds me ...

Otis -- is it a male or female vocalist?
Male vocalist, meant to post that earlier.
Do you remember anything about the instrumentation at all? Piano, electric keys, prominent bass, cymbals, hi-hat, cowbell ... anything?

So this is a song you remember, but haven't actually heard in forever? Because that makes things a lot harder ... the brain re-creates memories from whole cloth quite often. The brain is pretty much nothing like a tape recorder or DVD machine ... more like an on-demand experience re-creator.

who was it that actually recorded themselves humming the tune they were looking for and posted the recording in the FFA?

otis needs to go that route. or more pages of code. one of those.

And ironically ... Sirius' Yacht Rock station never played them
I assumed the station I listen to often, The Bridge, was the “yacht rock” station.  Maybe I have no idea what that even means.

The song I’m thinking of is maybe more “soft rock”?  It’s barely even rock though.  I dunno.

This is a tough one. Or it’s going to be tough to convey. Because all I have in my head is what I think may be the chorus part.

It goes: “la la laaa laaa laa la.”

I tried singing it into Shazam, but no luck. It’s a slow yacht-rock type song. I keep thinking “Summer Breeze” by Seals and Croft, but that’s not it. But it’s in that same feel or genre.

This is driving me nuts. Whatcha got?

Maybe I can find an online piano to record the tune.
60s?

I listen to The Bridge a lot and is it by chance a band named 10cc?  I'm Not In Love is maybe the song you're thinking about

10cc

what do I win?

"Yacht Rock" is poorly defined. To sum up: some people say true Yacht Rock songs have to tie in thematically to sailing, the ocean, the beach, tropical cocktails, islands/the Carribean/the South Pacific, etc. Others say that Yacht Rock just means "soft rock" of any type.

Sirius's Yacht Rock stations plays up the nautical-themed songs, but half of their stuff is regular ol' soft rock (e.g. Ambrosia, Pablo Cruise, Hall & Oates, etc.). Anything with country influence seems to get passed over, though (e.g. none of the Eagles softer hits get played).

No I’m sure I’ve heard it recently.  I just can’t pick out an instance and say “I heard it on this commercial yesterday.”  It was a hit.

Why aren’t you guys clicking the link I posted earlier and uploading that text file?  If you did that, one of you 70s rock nerds would probably nail it instantly.

PS - I’m in flight right now and the WiFi sucks so struggling to click the links posted recently.

How? Went to that site (using Google Chrome) and don't see anywhere to upload or even paste text.

Oats, I loaded the piano file and you might wanna reconsider zamboni's answer. Sounds like a match, imo, and that album just turned 50 a few weeks ago so may have gotten some extra play around that time.
Yes I’m just revisiting that.  May be totally right.

In my head I couldn’t imagine it, based on that part of the song, being a Stevie Wonder song.  Why is why my quick “nope” reaction.  But trying to think through it now and I think Zamboni nailed it.

Otis -- I finally figured out that piano site and played your text file. It is definitively "My Cherie Amour" by Stevie Wonder.

"Yacht rock" was a pretty big red herring :D

Thanks everyone.  Weird, I was assuming it was a less popular artist (like a Christopher Cross or Seals & Croft or something).  Just that part of the song doesn’t really “fit” with the rest, so I couldn’t connect it with My Cherie Amour.  I couldn’t even in my head figure out what came before or after that part in the song.  Just had that playing on repeat in my head...

that musical phrase pops into my head all the time. i could see how it could occur to someone in a disembodied way. and i'm sure Christopher Cross would have sung it beautifully....

BTW - sry, but i think i killed your margarita thread. i mentioned a thing as one of my favorites, knowing the hashtags would take care of the bad part. late last night, a poster asked me to explain it and, though i tried not to be salacious in its description, i think my response got the whole thing zapped.

First thing I thought of, last thing I figured you'd need help with, though I guess as wikkid said, that could happen to anybody. That musical phrasing sticks out in my head at random moments, too.

Gotta appreciate some Stevie, I guess.

It’s ok.  Otis threads don’t actually get deleted.  They get moved to a special archive.

Haven't read through the entire thread.

If it hasn't been guessed already,  pretty sure this is what you described.

La La Means I Love You: The Delfonics

Is it seasons in the sun?

Stevie Wonder - My Cherie Amour (?)

1969 actually, but just grasping at straws
Nope.

Zamboni guessed it, took Otis awhile to verify but it was My Cherie Amour. >> My Cherie Amour
