Nationals have runner on 1st. Ground ball to short. SS Segura throws to second, runner beats the throw, 2nd baseman Gennett throws to first and gets the runner at first easily. 2nd base umpire calls runner going into second out on runner interference. Matt Williams comes out to argue the call. All 4 umpires get together and talk about it. The runner interference call stands but they rule the batter safe at first. He was clearly out by a couple of steps.
Not sure why he would be ruled safe.
Rule 7.09(e) umpire shall call runner out for interference and call out the batter-runner b/c of action of teammate
