10 teams, total points. Play against every team each week. Highest scoring team get's 10 wins, second highest gets 9, etc.

Scoring:

SINGLE……..…1PT

RUN………………1PT

DOUBLE………2PT

R.B.I………………1PT

TRIPLE………..3PT

HOMERUN……4PT

STOLEN BASE…..1PT

WALK…………….1PT

HIT BY PITCH…1PT

STRIKEOUT…..(-.5PT)

CAUGHT STEALING…..(-.5PT)

Pitching

SHUTOUTS…………4PT

EARNED RUNS……….(-1PT)

WINS………………..8PT

LOSSES………………..(-3PT)

SAVES………………6PT

BLOWN SAVES……….(-3PT)

STRIKEOUTS………1PT

COMPLETE GAME……2PT

WALKS…………..…(-.5PT)

HIT BATSMEN………(-.5PT)

My thoughts: This scoring system seems to favor hitters, particularly power hitters and run producers and de-values pitching. The valuable pitchers are power strikeout pitchers. Also closers are not valued that high.

Am I right, thoughts?

Actually I think it favors relievers with high k numbers. Since you're losing a point for an earned run, and 1/2 point for hit batsmen and walks, that's not good for starters as they throw more innings. You get 5 points for a net win (wins-losses), but 3 points for a net save (save-bs). What's more likely a guy going 19-9 or a guy saving 30 out of 35? More guys get 30 saves than win 10 more games than they lose. And complete games and shutouts are too few and far between to worry about. Hell, Jake Peavy for example had 0 cg's and 0 shutouts last year...only 5 cg's in the past 5 years. And yes, the offensive numbers do favor power hitters a bit

You are correct. Over the long haul in a league set up like yours, pitchers dont matter at all. Dont draft a pitcher until RD 9-10. Our league was like this for years so I, as commish made wins 15 points. That brings some of the top tier pitchers on board with the top hitters. However, hitters dominate the top 150. If you stack up on batters, there should be a nice array of pitchers for you in the later rounds. Guys like Hughes, Lincecum, Liriano, Snell, Burnett, Sheets (people will be scared of him this year). Try to go with strikeout guys because you never know about wins.

I play in a H2H league with a similar scoring system, and you would be correct in your thinking. The closer position can be more valuable depending on the number of relievers you need in the lineup. But I have my lineup stocked with 30hr guys who may hit for good average; Vladi, Guillen, Sizemore, Morneau, Cano and Scheff with Bedard, Lackey, Vazquez, , Burnett, F-Rod in an AL only league and it keeps me in contention.Your pitchers are even less important because you don't get any points for innings pitched. This would bring the value up alot and should be a scoring category.
