Help! Middle School math. Uggh. (1 Viewer)

I SUCK at math. Basic stuff? Ok, but my son is asking me how to help him create and solve an equation for this:

One month, Ruby worked 6 hours more than Isaac, and Svetlana worked 4 times as many hours as Ruby. Together they worked 126 hours. Find the number of hours each person worked.

I'm not sure so asking for help from those better at math than me. Need the equation too - not just answer.

I did come up with that equation but not sure how to solve it.

That goes to 6I + 6 = 126.

Subtract 6 from each side,  6I = 120

Isasc 20.  Ruby 26. Svetlana 80

Don't use I as your variable though. It looks too much like 1. Use x.

S = 4(I + 6) =  4I +24 = Svetlana worked 4 times as many hours as Ruby

I + (I +6) + 4I + 24 = 126 = Together they worked 126 hours.

6I +30 = 126

6I = 96

I = 16

R = 22

S = 88

How'd you get there? What did your equation look like. You and Mad Cow arrived at different answers.

I = 13

R = 19

S = 76

Has to equal 126 hours
