I have an Acer laptop. At times it takes a very long time to get from boot up to the Acer screen. It's dark screen but you can see blinking in background. Take it in thinking ram or loose wire and gut immediately says need new screen. Will call me with estimate.  Calls back n says mother board bad too. What. Once I get to Acer screen it's fine. Sounded like he's lying . Was upset when I said I'll just come get it. I wasted. His time. I'm you said let me see and we'll go from there. And it says free estimates. I did not sign to work on it.

Get the computer back. Give the guy $20 for his efforts. Threaten to Yelp him to death if he does not comply.

Went on yelp and saw the not recommended reviews. Mow think it is scam and will get it back fixed or mot worse. What do you think I should do? He gets angry easy.

It's opened up. Went to get it and talked me into finishing diagnostics and would take hours to close. Should I just get it back opened and all? He loves to say how busy he is and I'm wasting his time.

At this point you're probably screwed. He's either going to hold your computer for ransom or he's going to give you a computer in pieces. So you can either pay him ~$300 to fix it or you can pay ~$400 for a new laptop of equal or greater value.

I figured as much. I'm worried he'd put it back together and go to my bookmarks and mess with sites I have password remembered with my user name. Nothing important of course like bank stuff just fb, message boards. Didn't think to log out. I guess best chance to get out of this the least scathed is to be nice and try and move the fix along . Making him mad at me again increases the chance of intentional #### ups.

These guys usual course of action is to wipe the hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

He said won't touch os that it's hardware. My mom got me this for Xmas 2014. Acer touch screen large screen. I had read reviews that they are problematic but it was a gift. I wanted large crisp screen with great sound system. I now have Bose headphones so not sure need this feature if I'm looking to buy new one. I always thought Dell is best.

Get your laptop back. There isnt a laptop out there that takes hours to put back. If he won't, go on craigslist and pay some college kid $20 to put it back together for you.

If it's slow to boot, then runs fine, it very well could be a motherboard issue.. Its very unlikely it's a screen issue. It's either a hardware issue, a driver issue, or, you've got an insane number of programs booting up.

Boot it up and click start, then type msconfig into the run box. There's a tab called on start, or start up. Is there a ton of stuff checked? If so, start unchecking and removing unnecessary stuff. You may be just pegging out the memory.

If that doesn't fix it, check your installed drivers. You may have one that's corrupt or uncompatible.

Get it back. Don't give in to his scam. Report to BBB and anything else. Find a reputable repair place and have them help you diagnose and put it back together.  Will still cost you less and give you more piece of mind.

I wish it were that easy. If I tell him again to close up and give it back I know he'll #### it up more. Wish i would have seen the hidden reviews. Called this am saying trying to fix motherboard. If can't and doesn't have it then has to order it. Told him try to fix it. I figure max he knows i can pay is 200. Worst case I'm out that and will hopefully find a reputable place. He did offer to swap out my hard drive to another identical unit that he had offered to give me to use till mine is done but said no. Luckily they are different colours.  Feel like if don't piss him off I May get it back working. Will call me in afternoon.  It's like I don't have the energy to deal with my fuzzy brain so just don't go over 200.

Just show up and ask for your computer back.  He can put it in a box if need be.  He can't do anything more at that point and he has to return your property if you ask.  Otherwise, you can call the police from his store (or wherever it is).  If it's a free estimate then you don't owe anything and he can't just keep your property.

Well. Just called the shop to tell him close it up. Of course not happy. Too late to get it tonight as they are cleaning store. Before anyone says go there I did that yesterday and he ignored me after saying it's going to take hours to close. Obviously it's coming back not in working order.  Wouldn't be surprised if he does more damage intentionally.  The stress of it all has exhausted me so I'm relieved I'm getting my dead computer back. If you read the not recommended reviews he's using the same playbook on me. If your curious it's computer world in Fremont.  After several rave reviews you'll find the not recommended ones. Obviously I didn't see that.

Getting it back dead in the am. Will take cash in case as no way giving my credit card. Have my old ThinkPad from 2005 that was still working. Just ordered the a.c. adapter for it and will use it for now. No more Acer. I knew it had issues from reviews but it was a gift.
