Helton to the Yankees? (1 Viewer)

Read a blurb on another site that indicated the Yankees are interested in acquiring Helton and Fuentes from the Rockies.

Obviously this would be a payroll move for the rockies - but what could the Yanks offer in return?

Then it dawned on me -

Helton and Fuentes

for

Giambi and Farnsworth

I would absolutely hate this as I am a huge Helton fan and between losing him and Fuentes it would make the Rockies almost unwatchable (they are my second favorite team behind St Louis). hell last year I was hoping jocketty would go after Fuentes to replace the aging Isringhausen.

Just what we need, another lefty hitter.

Oh and BTW LMFAO at the Helton/Fuentes for Giambi/Farnsworth idea. You obviously dont know it all cuz if the Yankees offered that theyd be laughed off the phone by the Rockies.

Another perfect fit for the Yankees.

A hugely overpayed old guy on the downside of his career.
Ummmm...Helton hitting in the .350s on the downside of his career? He plays first, and has a great swing.

Fuentes is just filthy.
HR's . . .2003 - 33

2004 - 32

2005 - 20

2006 - 15

He's one tweek of the back away from being a disaster.

And you do know that Giambi is due 21 million this year and 21 million next year? I know Helton has a huge contract but is it anywhere near Giambi's?

That is exactly what I was thinking. It would have to be a total slaray dump by the rockies and would have to have New York eat part of Giambi's salary.Admittedly Giambi would not be a fit in Colorado (i.e., the character issue) but I know the Yanks want to get rid of Giambi after the steroid talk the other day...and Torre is not a big fan of Farnsworth's mental lapses.I wonder what the Yanks could package to get Helton and Fuentes if the rumor is true that they arte interested.

Well, Im guessing this rumor would have to be coming from Steinbrenner's people, because Cash has been trying to restock the farm system. Its not like the Yanks have cheap pitching to trade, and the only guy in their lineup not making obscene amounts of cash is Cano, who isnt exactly lighting it up atm. So, unless they've got some guys down on the farm, who are they going to trade worth anything that isn't named Hughes?

Helton's contract is way, way worse than Giambi's. Giambi's contract expires after 2008. Helton is owed $19 million in 2011. No way the Yankees or anybody else for that matter takes on that contract unless of course the Rockies pick up a part of it like the Rangers did in the ARod trade. Also, Giambi has a no trade clause. He has stated that he won't agree to a deal. That could be a ploy on his part. He does have a team option for mega dollars in 2009 that the Yanks have 0% chance of exercising. If that option is picked up Giambi would be stupid to turn the trade down. After all this nonsense he won't get another big contract any other way.

Colorado wants to dump the salary here. Detroit has been contacted as well and word around the campfire says they aren't asking for much in return. We're talking Single A prospects that are a reach.

Didn't realize the price was that low, but still, I wouldn't want to go anywhere near that contract. Though I guess they need to dump it so they can sign Holliday.

It's a salary dump by the Rockies so they'll get darn near nothing in return. The Yankees, who are a team where money is no object, can easily afford this move. They acquire two excelent players and dump Phelps and some random bullpen arm. The problem with all this is the blurb said there are no talks going on. Seems to me it's probably someone trying to drum up speculation as opposed to this being something close.
