Hernandez convicted of first-degree murder; found deceased in his cell. (5 Viewers)

Rotoworld:

After speaking to multiple district attorneys and legal experts, the Boston Globe's Wesley Lowery suspects prosecutors are building their case on the premise that Aaron Hernandez was the sole shooter in Odin Lloyd's murder.

It's not surprising based on evidence put forth by Massachusetts law enforcement officials. Meanwhile, the Boston Globe's Ben Volin reports the Patriots have already voided all of Hernandez's future guaranteed money on the grounds that "It was guaranteed for skill and injury. It wasn’t guaranteed for personal conduct that cast the club in a negative light." Trial pending, all signs continue to point to Hernandez serving a lengthy prison sentence.

Meh...

I give them some credit, but it would be really great of them and the NFL if they swallowed a couple $million or whatever and did that for ALL Hernandez jerseys. Still... a pretty classy gesture nonetheless.
“We know that children love wearing their Patriots jerseys, but may not understand why parents don’t want them wearing their Hernandez jerseys anymore,” Patriots spokesperson Stacey James said in a statement. “We hope this opportunity to exchange those jerseys [bold]at the Patriots ProShop[/bold] for another player’s jersey will be well received by parents.”

Where is he pro shop? in the stadium? Don't you need a ticket to a game to get IMO the stadium?
Sounds like a great idea and their getting great press for it until you read into it. You have to go to the stadium during 4th of July weekend, why not let people exchange the jersey all yr long, I'm sure they don't want people wearing it.
Jesus F'ing Christ! The Pats orginization didn't have to do anything. They offered to exchanege every Hernandez jersey ever bought at their shop over the past three years, and that's not enough? You want people who bought Hernandez Jerseys from every store in the entire US to just trade them in for another jersey? or "Meh"?

What did ther Ravens (Lewis), Panthers (Carruth), Rams (Little), etc, etc do?

Sorry. Last sentence unnecessary. I honestly wouldn't expect anyone to say don't show up here in something that could be considered gangster attire. Play it in a way that makes you look good is fine.

A lot of advantages to this for the Patriots, none of which I would classify as being out of the "goodness of their heart""

1. Good press/PR

2. Coupon effect of basically luring traffic into their store on what might be otherwise be a slow period.

3. It's not good for the brand to see folks running around with his shirt.

(Items 1 and 3 are both somewhat tied together and both are in some small way tie back the the Patriots feeble attempt to continue to manifest this "Patriot Way" BS on everyone and try and distance themself from the fact that part of the "Patriot Way" likely involved featuring a gang banger with an affinity for capping folks.)

"In addition, text messages from Lloyd to his sister indicated that he knew he was in peril, McCauley said.

He texted his sister reminding her of who he was with -- "I just want you to know," he wrote."

If I need to text this, I know about the double murder - I'm jumping out the damn car.
I'm not getting into the car in the first place.
Again we don't really know all the details. What if they had a gun to his back saying get in the car... at that point you do it, cause you never know there's a chance they won't kill you. Or maybe he said he would let him live if he came with him (reminds me of the movie Mystic River)... or maybe he said he was going to kill his wife/sister/family/whatever as well as him if he didn't co operate, or maybe they said they were going to beat him up and he went 'willingly' rather then being shot on the spot or risking being killed... which he probably knew AH wasn't afraid to do. Unfortunately we may never know why the guy willingly got into that car. He was probably in shock too.
One theory I have is that they did not hold a gun to him and coerce him into the vehicle. They simply stated that they needed gas and were intending on buying the crew a pack of Bubblicious.

Who the &^%$ would pass up an offer like that?!
Am I the only one who feels bad that they don't broadly sell grape and strawberry Bubbalicious any more? Really, the more you look, the more crimes you find in this story....

According to PFT, "Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter said Friday that he believes all three men in the car with Lloyd are now in custody." PFT mentions the three men known to be in custody are Wallace, Hernandez, and Carlos Ortiz. I'm not understanding how they gathered info on the in-car conversations for the arraignment given the timing of the arrests. Not to mention that Wallace being charged only as after the fact accomplice seems to make his presence at that ride less likely. Anyone think the quote suggests a 4th cooperating person, who was in the car, is in custody?

One of the suspects now in custody could have easily talked before being arrested and read his rights.

"The exchange will be offered only during the weekend of July 6-7 and is only for jerseys purchased at the pro shop at Gillette Stadium or online at patriotsproshop.com.", "to exchange it with a free jersey of comparable value, the team announced."

Mostly a PR move.... with all those restrictions someone may be able to pickup a Welker or Lloyd Jersey from last year. Even at that the chance that it was bought at one of those two place's really doesn't hit too many people imo.
Meh? Exchanging some old beaten up jersey for a brand new, hopefully "TEBOW" jersey, would be an awesome deal.

You think there were five grown men, at least two of whom were football players, in a Nissan Altima?

I sure Jets fans are more interested in the jeresy so they can use it as a prop in a NE game. And as stated above, I sure that the Jersey will become a status symbol in gangs along the area.

Do the Patriots really want thugs and criminals proudly displaying their Hernandez jersey?

Hey, its a nice jester and they don't have to do it but they didn't making it very convenient for the customers (giving them a 2 day window on a very busy weekend). Now if they gave customers all summer long and or up untill the end of Sept then that would be really awesome of them.

I had a red Vick falcon jersey back before the dog incident. A year after he was convicted, I sold all my jerseys, save a couple, to help fund some traveling. I thought, nobody is going to want this Vick jersey now, but sure enough, it sold for the most of any of them on EBay. Most sold for around 60, but Vick went for around 120. My thought process was the same, I figured "thugs" now valued the Vick jersey even more. I would imagine this will be the case with Hernandez as well, and to an even larger extent. If I'm an AHern jersey owner right now, I think I hold. The value of his jersey will only go up, especially if they already banned the sale, and I would imagine quite a few Pats fans have burned their Hernandez jerseys by this point.

The Patriots have voided the remaining guarantees in Aaron Hernandez's contract.
The guarantees included $2.5 million in base salaries over the next two seasons, $1 million in workout bonuses, and the rest of his signing bonus. The Patriots face a stiff battle to avoid paying Hernandez his $3.25 million signing bonus payment that was due in March, but they seem set on making him fight for it. Hernandez's cap numbers will be $2.55 million in 2013 and $7.5 million in 2014. The 2013 number was previously scheduled to be over $5 million.

When asked about the reason the team nullified a guaranteed portion of the contract, a Patriots exec told Vollin, "It was guaranteed for skill and injury. It wasn't guaranteed for personal conduct that cast the club in a negative light."

Any reason to think the NFLPA would have an issue with this?

If the Patriots get away with this, the Jets should follow their lead and release Sanchez. They could refuse to pay Sanchez and claim that his pantless video was "personal conduct that cast the club in a negative light."

they have to go after the Pats, to just let it slide will lead to a slippery slope down the road. A team can't just void a contract because their mad, even for scum like AH. Can a player just void his portion or a contract? Nope, theres penalties and fines a player faces.

guarantee is for skill or injury. Meaning, incarceration is not.covered by.the guarantee.
so can players for the Browns' just rip up their contracts since the owner is under federal investigation
What I find odd, is you just have to be accused of something to get your life ruined. In my opinion he did it, and will pay when evidence is presented, but that does not mean he does not deserve his day in court. He has not even presented his defense, and he is guilty.

Funny how many people are righteous Americans, yet when one basic principle of our nation is innocent until PROVEN guilty in the court of law, but no one ever gets that memo.

In my opinion, he should be owed every penny of his contract that is already earned (Signing, roster and workout bonuses), Patriots are just as at fault in the contract situation. They should have done due diligence.

They should have done due diligence.
good posting, the Pats have the right to cut him but they have to be on the hook for that contract. Besides its Sunday, is the office even open today?
It's Saturday where I'm at. lol ;-)

You might not be aware of this, but he'll be getting his day in court.

Guess it's lucky for the pats your opinion doesn't count for anything.

The 2013 number was previously scheduled to be over $5 million.

how?
It means they refuse to pay and he has to take them to court if he wants the money.
Any reason to think the NFLPA would have an issue with this?
Obviously yes. They'll be involved in whatever form it takes, court case, appeal to special master, or to the CBA-appointed appeals committee.

If the Patriots get away with this, the Jets should follow their lead and release Sanchez. They could refuse to pay Sanchez and claim that his pantless video was "personal conduct that cast the club in a negative light."
pretty sure he already cast them in a negative light with his play on the field

they have to go after the Pats, to just let it slide will lead to a slippery slope down the road.
Agreed. Considering the Mark Sanchez example above, where would you draw the line?
Murder. Murder would be an okay place to draw the line.

I highly doubt the NFLPA raises a finger for Hernandez.

For the record, I could careless if Hernandez gets a red cent of his signing bonus. I just don't care for the fact the Patriots could get a competitive advantage in the the form of salary cap relief for signing a high risk player.

They're not getting an advantage. They're getting a partial reduction in their disadvantage.

I'm not even sure they'll get anything back, but I wouldn't be surprised. And I wouldn't really care if any other team got some cap space back in a situation like this.

First, he's not officially a murderer, yet.

Second, if a guy goes out and rapes a couple women, giving them HIV, is that not enough to void a contract? How about if he attempts to murder the president? Beats up some school children, and puts a couple in a coma?

Murder is the ultimate crime, but there are many others not too far behind.

If they are not getting any salary cap advantage than I am fine with it. I just want a level playing field when it comes to the salary cap.
