Hernandez convicted of first-degree murder; found deceased in his cell. (2 Viewers)

Hernandez now on suicide watch in prison. I'm not sure what that means or what causes that (it could be simple bureaucratic or legal triggers), but it can't be good.
I feel like it could be SOP after a long conviction or something.
I'm sure this will sound insensitive as hell. And I don't mean to ignite an assisted suicide debate in the SP.

Buuuuut...

If a guy with a life sentence would rather die, then why do they stand in the way?

Most people who think they'd rather die end up changing their minds if given the chance.

I think people should be allowed to kill themselves if they want to. But right after getting some really bad news is not the time to trust them with that decision. They should have to wait at least a few weeks to decrease the chance that the decision is driven by transitory emotions.

Someone get the guy a rope.
:goodposting:

Think of the money the state of MA would save!
Depends on the grade of rope.
I'd give him some old weak #### that would break and upgrade it until he got it right....even if it cost the state a little extra to keep him around a week or so longer.

He needs to spend some time as the new prison girlfriend before he gets the good rope. He's a big dude but I'm sure there are a few in there big enough to make him play the female role.

This reminds me of scenes in Soylent Green and Escape From New York (not that I disagree).

Could the looming double murder trial involve the death penalty (in some states, multiple homicides are a special circumstance), and supersede, command override life in prison with no parole?

My non-lawyer understanding is appeals are generally based on flaws in applying the laws. Things like whether evidence was admitted that should have been inadmissible.

I also recall at least one article mentioning most such decisions were made in Hernandez's favor, so there probably was not much likelihood he would win an appeal.

If they had nothing better to appeal on than "insufficient evidence for a conviction", sounds like that view might be correct.

I can't imagine that. States either have the death penalty or they don't.
Right. I wasn't implying a state without the death penalty would invoke it under special circumstances for a multiple homicide.

But I think I can recall some instances where states that did have it, were more likely to invoke it in the case of multiple homicides (special circumstances) than a single one. Not sure, though, which is why I asked.

Jury Tipster Had "Sexually Explicit Relationship" with Hernandez
Posted by Mike Florio on August 3, 2015

If you thought that the situation involving former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez couldn’t get any more bizarre, you thought wrong. Via the Boston Herald, the anonymous tipster who contacted Hernandez lawyer James Sultan had been involved in a "sexually explicit relationship" with Hernandez, “prior to and during the trial.” The tipster, identified in court papers as only as “Katy,” told Sultan that a juror was “untruthful” during jury selection regarding knowledge of separate murder charges pending against Hernandez. Sultan wants to question the tipster under oath. Prosecutors oppose the effort, claiming that “Katy” had ulterior motives to make an “implausible” allegation. If “Katy” isn’t Hernandez’s fiancée, Shayanna Jenkins, the development is awkward, to say the least. It also will invite curiosity regarding the visitation rules at the jail where Hernandez was held before and during trial.

He's still engaged? I would think that relationship has limited upside. I'd take a flyer on Lache Seastrunk before I would this marriage.

Never going to be a cheaper Dynasty buy low. Once he's cleared, how many TEs are legit better than him? No more Graham in his way. He'll easily outrank Barnidge. Top 3 for sure.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that even if Tom Brady showed up at the police station and fully confessed to the crimes, Hernandez will never play a down of football in the NFL again.

Pffffft. It's not impossible, and you can get him for basically free. It's a dynasty "hold" at the very least. Buy for $0 in the offseason and see what happens. After some appeals, who knows? All they really have on the guy is that he likes the kind of bubble gum found in the car they already know he was in. That's all the evidence against him. He could be back in time for the Brady Retirement Tour and catch 20 TDs when Tom Terrific starts chucking them nonstop in his last few games.
