hernia guys (1 Viewer)

I didn't need the meds. I do well with pain, sickness not so much but "pain don't hurt"

I'm 5 months since my double and I still get reminded from time to time that I had the procedure done. I was doing yard work and lifting a lot but nothing too bad.

The main thing that still bothers me is having sex. I won't get too graphic but if it is a long, intense session...like over 2 min...I am sore as crap for a day or 2.

Got sliced about a year ago for the inguinal...my left side.

Recovery sucked as there are so many movements of your body that require those muscles.

Sleeping really was the main issue getting comfortable as I would typically sleep on that side or even almost on my stomach and that was out for a while. Sleeping on my back sucked.

Still have some nerve issues/numbness I feel down by my leg and some minor "pulling" feeling from time to time from the scar tissue I think.

Oh...and stool softeners...take them as often as you can. The side effects of narcotics and your bowels combined with not wanting to feel the pain when you push to take a dumb sucks.

today's update.

surgery was 8 days ago and i feel much, much better. i had good energy from, say, friday on. i was taking the pain meds at around the end of the night to help me sleep but still waking up around 430a sore.

bodily functions are back to normal too. i'm still careful about lifting things but i don't think anyone would notice beyond that.

fooled around with the gf the other day and it was mostly successful. sore as hell - the expected bruising may have gotten worse - but kind of worth it. my junk itself is kind of oddly swollen on one side, which i can't say for sure is trauma from the sex or the surgery. regardless, i am going to try to lay off the sex for a week and see.

the best part? i haven't felt the symptoms of the hernia since the surgery and that's really nice.
How bad were the symptoms before?
um, like being poked in the nuts and deeper pretty much all the time? sore, for sure, but it went beyond that.

i am doing ok with the sex post-surgery. i've had 2 sessions with the gf (lasting somewhere between 30 -60 mins) and only been a little sore afterwards. i found that it was much better for me with her on top but not putting her weight on my hips.

how long did you put off the lifting? i feel mostly fine, like i said, and have been able to get by with one pain med a day. usually to help me sleep soundly.

i kind of need to get back to being able to lift more than 20 lbs and my follow up with the surgeon isn't for another 2 weeks.

I think it varies. The Doc will probably tell you "let pain be your guide" I think 4 weeks for light lifting should be fine and maybe sooner.

that's tough for me. my 4-year old son is 30+ lbs and we're used to my picking him up all the time. little dude asked to see my "ouchies" last night and i showed him one of the band-aid covered incisions. he was gobsmacked, saying,"oh my gosh."

I had my surgery this morning. I have to admit that I didn't think the pain would be what it was and you definitely don't realize how much you use your abs for almost everything you do. But know I feel a lot better after resting all day. In fact, I just walked a couple of blocks to get a pizza. I think in the morning I want to go see the Natural History museum. The only thing I'm not sure about is riding the metro.

My daughter isn't nearly that big but I had no problems picking her up after a few days. For me a lot of lifting early was in my technique or form. I found a few ways that wouldn't put me in a bind in the wrong places and it seemed to work well.

My recovery is going really well after 2+ days but I had something really scary happen to me this morning. I was just finishing my breakfast downing the bit of a hard boiled egg and that last bite somehow went down my throat the wrong way. The only way to dislodge it was a hard cough. I couldn't do it. Even little half coughs gave almost unbearable pain. After a few minutes I was almost panicking. Finally after a good 15 minutes of half coughs, gargling and burping I got it to where it felt decent. I will definitely be very careful about swallowing food in the future until this thing heals up. I can't even begin to imagine if someone had the surgery then got a cold or flu soon after what kind of hell that would be.

i am, what, like 8 months from my surgery for the double. i only have the occasional twinge here and there. i can sometimes feel the "webbing" when i am fooling around with the gf. i am aware that i have it - especially with the incision scars on either side - to be sure but it's not a hindrance.

oh sure.

What they might not have told you is that you will have swelling inside making it difficult to pee. It was the worst part, feeling like I was about to explode and stand there for 5 min just for 1 drop to come out. I was back at work in less than a week. Will Ferrell can describe the look of you area afterwards better than I. Plumbs

I'm not very good at telling stories in print but irl this was pretty funny. I had never had surgery but apparently I am someone who gets very sick from anesthesia. I am 44 but still in pretty good shape, but a far cry from great shape. So after my surgery I am so nauseous and out of it that I don't care what I say or do. They start wheeling me to the bathroom to try and pee and throw up, when I see some young guy with no shirt on, the guy was built good so I already hate him, but then I hear the nurse talking about how good he is recovering and the guy is sitting up smiling without a care in the world, he's talking to the nurses and cracking jokes. He looks like the photogenic runner dude only the post-surgery version so now I really hate him. I'm sitting in my wheelchair slumped over to one side ### hanging out trying not to hurl, and this guy spots me and smiles at me sympathetically. I slowly raise my hand up, I'm so weak I can barely lift it, and flip this guy the bird. My wife pushes my hand down and scolds me and I do into some slobbering tirade about how there is no way that guy just had surgery. Guy laughs a little as I am sure I look totally pathetic and goes back to talking with the nurses.

I know...cool story bro.
:lmao:

had the umbilical hernia / mesh / laproscopic jobber about 9 years ago... no complications whatsoever

I am a year out from mine and I regret that I took so long to get this fixed. I had no idea how much I altered the way I did things. I can now push so much harder when it comes to working out and not be fearful of getting hit with pain in that area.

I seldom have any pain but I am aware that I've had something done in that area. It's not so much a painful thing and I'm not sure uncomfortable would be the right word it's just different. I'd say it took about 8 months to really feel confident about it and be pain free in strenuous activities.
