HGH: Do you think MLB should just allow players to use it? (1 Viewer)

I'm no expert on HGH, but, to me, this seems like it would be the most sensible approach.

Presumably, there are 2 main reasons that it's banned: level playing field and long-term health concerns.

If everyone's allowed to do it, there are no issues with a level playing field.

If it's out in the open, players would be able to consult with team doctors on the safest ways to use and still get a benefit.

So, we'd have a level playing field and stronger, faster, more alert, better seeing, healthier ballplayers with better skin and hair to boot. Good for the players, good for fans.

Is this just a completely ridiculous idea?

Baseball is a game of cheating. I expect players to take HGH or whatever else they can to get an edge. I also expect baseball to crack down on such nonsense and making HGH legal is a ridiculous idea.

I agree 100%. Right now the "honest" players are the ones getting screwed the most.

Aside from the fact that the FDA doesn't really approve of it.....baseball has a real love affair with the past. Out of all the sports, it probably holds its history as the most sacred. As long as fans of the historical greats are still around, alive and influencing the game.....you won't see it. As these people die off and are replaced..... (if it loses it's stigma in our society as a whole)you might see something.

As long as you've got no problems with teenage kids doing it, sure.
I thought about that. I'm not sure what I think.Obviously, I can't imagine it's good for teenagers. I also don't know exactly what the negative effect would be for a teenager that used a HGH under supervision of a doctor. The other factor is that baseball players use many things that children shouldn't use. MLB players have a long history abusing tobacco and alcohol. MLB has taken steps to be a bit more discrete about on-field tobacco use, but you can't watch a game without seeing a handful of good players with a big, fat chew in. It would be silly to suggest the MLB should ban tobacco and alcohol use b/c kids might think it's cool and want to do.I have a hard time believing that HGH is any more dangerous than alcohol and tobacco.I can see the "kids" argument, but we live in a "do as I say, not as I do" society anyway.

Let's ban beer while we are at it, kids could do it.
