Hillis Wasted on Browns (1 Viewer)

The Browns have what every NFL team wants...a fast, hard-running RB that can knock people over, break tackles, AND run away from tacklers.

And yet they have some of the worst play-calling I've ever seen!

Yes, some of their tricks work, and Colt McCoy is playing well for a rookie...good for them. But when you have first and goal at the five and Peyton Hillis in the huddle, why don't you just line up and run the damn ball?

Jets game, week 10, 2nd Qtr, 1st and goal at the five:

1st Down: Shotgun formation...draw play to Hillis -- two yard gain

(Ok, good start...now line up and run two more times! But no...)

2nd Down: Shotgun formation...screen pass to Hillis -- two yard loss

3rd Down: Shotgun formation...incomplete pass

What the HELL?!

You've got a great running back and an offensive line that can block...line up in a standard run formation and RUN!

Cleveland could be one of the best teams in the league if they used Hillis to his full potential.

The Cleveland Browns coach do not care about your fantasy football team.

I've heard that somewhere before.

Honestly I'm not sure what you are driving at as the Browns have utilized Hillis to the fullest. It's not like they can give him 60 carries a game.

actually I agree with this guy...the 2nd down call was atrociousETA: I was wasted on the Browns too Sunday! :banned: :suds:

yeah, I was going to say that he was kind of wasted on the Broncos and has been maximized on the Browns. Hasn't he scored TDs in 8 of the last 9 games or something?

You can pick out one series from every team, every game, every week and question the play calling.

On the whole, the offensive coordinator has been calling games above his head for the past 5 weeks. I'm talking Pro-Bowl caliber playcalling for the weapons he has on offense past Hillis.

Point to it:

What more could you possibly want from the guy?

I was pretty confused with the playcalling on that series myself, but I definitely cannot complain about his usage for the majority of this season, so I think you are a little off-base.

Hillis wasted on the Browns? Sometimes I wonder what people are actually loking at when they watch football games. No team just runs their great RB every play. If the Browns are wasting Hillis then Minny is seriously wasting AP, the best RB in the NFL right now. With some folks rationale, the Vikes would only run 2 plays: hand the ball to AP or throw screens to AP.

NFL defenses are complicated and very good. You have to mix up plays to try to keep all defenses honest. And you have to not overuse your best players so that they can be used for the next game and the rest of the season.

Agreed. The Browns had a great mix of the run and pass against the Jets, especially when you consider they almost had a TD in the first series that McCoy just overthrew, and the fact they have a severe lack of talent at the skill positions other than RB. I don't really think you can complain that Hillis is under-utilized.

so a single series is enough for you to know that they do not call plays right for Hillis? It seems like they are feeding him the ball in a variety of ways and clearly you seem off.

Because they will put 11 in the box if all you do is run the ball.

Its a shame that this would have to be explained on a football message board...Possibly a new low for the SP.

Get Em!

You should feel fortunate that he is on the Browns. If he were on another team, he may be lost in the depth chart like he was in Denver.

The Browns are much, much closer to being a dominant team than people realize. They now have all the makings since they found their QB of the future in Colt McCoy. That kid is going to be a player.

McCoy, a Pro Bowl caliber RB in Hillis, a good OL, & a D that's going to be very good in time. The only thing they lack is another playmaker at receiver & he can be found via the draft, FA, &/or trade.

I look for them to make the playoffs in 2011 & be one of the better teams in the NFL over the course of the next 7 or 8 years.

 If you have Hillis, be happy with the numbers he's putting up that no one in their right might even suspected he was capable of. I'm sure all the DWill, Michael Turner, Ray Rice, Ronnie Brown, Jospeh Addai, etc., etc., pwners feel sorry for you.Jiminy Ungrateful Christmas.
