Hippo attacks 3 lions crossing the river (1 Viewer)

That's nuts. It moved fast! Those 2 were lucky to get away.
I love how the 3rd kept looking over that way from the start and then was like, nope, not worth it I'm outta here.

Wow. One of them is lucky it got away with those fangs/stalactite-esque tusks on the hippo and the way the hippo was going after it. The camera panning out to show the lions on the riverbank that had just watched the scene and refused to cross the river was amusing and sad all at once. They looked awfully ****in' confused. Used to getting their way, only to be told "no way."

Staying in a safari camp in Tanzania a handful of years ago, while sitting at breakfast in the open-air lodge, I saw an elephant crossing nearby through the camp. I quickly grabbed one of the Maasai guides to walk past a few huts so I could get a good photo. We rounded one hut ...and were face to face with a hippo about 12-15 feet away. He stared at us, and we stared at him. Damn, those things are massive. The guide slowly backed us up against the side of the lodge. Eventually, the guide shouted and stamped his feet, and the hippo turned and ran. And damn, those things are fast, too. I didn't dare take a pic out of fear that camera click would cause it to attack. Don't mess with hippos!

HIPPOPOTAMUS

Responsible for an estimated 3,000 deaths per year

With so many dangerous animals in Africa, many people often overlook the fact that the hippopotamus is actually the biggest killer of humans of all large African animals. Although hippos are herbivores, these highly territorial animals are estimated to kill an incredible 3,000 people each year.
Male hippos fiercely defend their territories – which include the banks of rivers and lakes, while females hippos can get extremely aggressive if they sense anything getting in between them and their babies, who stay in the water while they feed on the shore.

Hippos weigh up to 1,500 kg – the third biggest animal in Africa behind the elephant and rhino – and can run on land at speeds of up to 30 km per hour. Combine this with their aggressive nature, agility in and out of the water, and sharp, half-meter teeth in enormous jaws and you can understand why hippos can make for such a fearsome creature to encounter

How hippos can move so fast in water:

All of the text editing functionality is greyed out and not selectable in the forum for me. Anyone know how to fix that?

Killer Whales are up there as well. They rule the ocean. They will kill whales and great white sharks for fun.

I love how there were three lions crossing at the start, but when the hippo arrived, there were only two, because one of the three hauled butt back to the shore (which you can see when the hippo is moving towards the lions) almost like he saw the hippo and thought, "I am not on board with this idea anymore." :lmao:
