"Home" team in UK game in 2008 will be... (1 Viewer)

Tampa Bay, Seattle, Kansas, New Orleans.

Alastair Kirkwood, managing director for NFL UK, just confirmed on Sky Sports (UK version of Fox that shows all the live NFL stuff) that one of these four teams will be the "home" team for the 2008 UK game.

Kirkwood added that the choice would depend on three things:

1) Which of those 4 potential home teams "buys into it" the most

2) Getting a good offensive match-up

3) Balancing plans for future years (whatever that means).

Also said that NFL top brass had been to inspect Murrayfield (Edinburgh, Scotland) and Millenium Stadium (Cardiff), with Wembley a contender again too. said each of the three had plusses and minusses.

Although I'd likely go see the game if Seattle was in it, if they sacrifice a home game the way they play on the road I'd be super pissed.

My money is on the Jayhawks

Kirkwood also revealed that the game would be an October game, it will not be a divisional game and I think he said it would be an AFC/NFC clash (didn't completely catch this last bit).

You have to respect Mark Mangino. People criticized KU's schedule this year, now he is prepared to take on the challenge of tougher teams.

If I had to make a wild guess...

Carl Peterson has supposedly been pushing for the Chiefs to play an overseas game in 2008 whilst Arrowhead is renovated. One of the teams scheduled to visit KC in 2008 is New Orleans. Presumably the Saints would merit consideration as an away team if they are on the short list for a home team. This would be an NFC/AFC match-up and therefore tick that box as well, whislt the Saints are a marketable offense, even if the Chiefs aren't at this point.

So I'll guess KC vs New Orleans.

Please note this is just speculation on my part.

Dunno about that. The Privateers haven't had a good football program in years.

Judging on what Kirkwood has said tonight, the game will be one of these eight:

Tampa Bay v Oakland

Tampa Bay v San Diego

Kansas City v New Orleans

Kansas City v Tampa Bay

Seattle v New England

Seattle v New York Jets

New Orleans v Oakland

New Orleans v San Diego

Being a Viking fan living in the Tampa Bay area, I have been waiting for next season knowing that the Bucs will be hosting the Vikings in 2008. So this just about makes me believe that their game will be the one in the UK.

You can relax, Kirkwood pretty much said it would be an NFC/AFC match-up.

if they want offense, why in the world would they let the hermenator fly over???

I thought Wembly was out after the NFL tore up the field this year and cost England a birth in the Euros?

it was for the best. England never wins anyways, so basically we are just saving ourselves from English hooligans.

Could there be a more Brittish name than Alistair?

If the field is anywhere near as bad as it was this past year, they might as well get 2 great defensive teams out there. It'd be a total waste to market the game as an offensive game and then put them in a bog again.

I'm surprised to see so many teams so far out west on that list. Seems like it'd be even more of a hardship for those teams flying over there. If the NFL chooses one of those west coast teams and pairs them against an east coast team, the east coast team is going to have a major advantage IMO.
